FOR ART LOVERS ON LONG ISLAND

Places for the Art Lover to Visit on Long Island

For those who love the arts, Long Island is home to a number of wonderful art galleries and art museums. Depending upon the taste of an individual with regard to particular artwork, there is sure to be a place that holds something for each individual with regard to art. The following paragraphs will highlight a few different spots throughout Long Island which provide a wealth of entertainment and culture within the walls of the establishment.

Hillwood Art Museum

The Hillwood Art Museum, located in Brookville, houses a wide variety of exhibits, some permanent and some temporary, which cover a range of various types of artwork. From the older works to more contemporary pieces, the Hillwood Art Museum offers something for everyone who comes to the museum. Individuals who wish to tour the museum at their leisure may do so while others who wish to become more involved in museum-sponsored activities can take advantage of these opportunities as well. The museum provides generous business hours throughout much of the year (their schedule is a bit more limited during the summer) and has quite reasonable admission fees.

Islip Art Museum

For those who are looking to view a bit more contemporary style of art, one may find exactly what they are looking for at the Islip Art Museum in East Islip on the South Shore. The museum presents exhibits throughout the year which focus on current events at the time. The artwork provides fascinating insight on the part of the artist with regard to what is currently going on in the world. The museum also provides an extensive permanent collection as well. Not only is one able to view artwork at the Islip Art Museum but can also get involved with fine art classes and other various art-related activities that are offered at various times throughout the year. The museum is open Wednesdays through Saturdays from 10 am to 4 pm and on Sundays from 12 pm to 4 pm. The staff asks that a suggested donation of $3/person be given by those who visit the museum, which in my opinion is quite a reasonable price for all that the Islip Art Museum has to offer its patrons.

These are just two of the many art-related establishments that one can find on Long Island. From the past artwork to the present, more contemporary pieces, there is sure to be a collection that will meet the tastes of each individual who is looking to tour an art museum or gallery on Long Island.
