COLD SPRING HARBOR WHALING MUSEUM

Education and Fun at the Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum

Long Island is known for its coastal issues and historical background regarding the sea. There are quite a few museums on Long Island which host material of this type within their establishment. One museum in particular which does a fantastic job of presenting informative and interesting information regarding coastal issues and the sea is the Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum. This wonderful museum is located in Cold Spring Harbor and provides a variety of activities for individuals and families alike.

Things to See and Do at Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum

The Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum provides a wide variety of displays and exhibits that deal with the whaling industry and the Cold Spring seaport, more specifically. Visitors to the museum will be able to tour the area and see what makes the seaport the important place that it is today. The Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum has both a permanent collection and temporary exhibits which pass through the museum on a periodic basis. Currently, individuals who go to the whaling museum will be able to view the temporary exhibit entitled Arts of the Sailor, which runs from September 2005 through August 2006.

The museum staff also provides educational lectures and workshops for adults and children of various ages, depending upon the individual program. Not only are individuals allowed to view items from the past but will be able to learn more about the objects and subject matter as well through lectures and workshops of this type.

General Information

The museum is open year-round from Tuesday through Sunday, 11 am to 5 pm and also on Mondays throughout the summer and holiday Mondays throughout the year. For a reasonable charge of $4 for adults and $3 for seniors and students (ages 5-18), individuals can partake in all that the Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum has to offer its patrons. For those lucky little ones under the age of 5 and members of the military, admission is free.
