GETTING IN SHAPE FOR 2006

Ways to Get in Shape for the New Year

Now that the holidays have come and gone and the waistline is bulging a little from all of the fruitcake and egg nog that has been consumed, many individuals may be considering losing some of that holiday weight. There are many activities which one can partake in on Long Island, both indoors and out, which will aid in one’s weight loss program. The following paragraphs will highlight some of these activities and provide information on where individuals can go to get involved in them.

Hiking

For the outdoor lovers out there, hiking is a wonderful way to get some fresh air, enjoy the sights and lose weight all at the same time. There are many wonderful hiking spots throughout Long Island where individuals can go to enjoy nature and work off those extra holiday pounds. For those individuals who are located near the South Shore of Long Island, Heckscher State Park located in the town of East Islip is a nice spot for both beginner and advanced hikers to try. Individuals who wish to go hiking and are closer to the North Shore region may wish to engage in their hiking ventures at Caleb Smith State Park Preserve.

Mountain Biking

Mountain biking is another great activity to engage in for those individuals who like to enjoy the outdoors and lose some weight in the process. Many of the parks in the Long Island area that provide trails for hikers will also allow mountain biking but it is important to check with the individual park prior to going on your biking trip. One wonderful place where mountain bikers go to do their cycling is the Rocky Point Mountain Bike Trail in the North Shore region.

Tennis

For those individuals who are looking to get into shape in an indoor setting, there are a number of tennis clubs and facilities on Long Island where one can go to play a few sets. Whether one wishes to play with friends and/or family members or join a tennis league, there are a number of places which will allow the individual to do both. One tennis club in particular that is a fabulous place to play is the Eastern Athletic Clubs located in three different locations throughout Long Island including Blue Point, Dix Hills, and Melville.

What better way to start 2006 in Long Island than by getting into shape while engaging in some fun activities?
