LONG ISLAND RAIL ROAD GROUP RATES

Sightseeing With the Group Rate On the Long Island Rail Road

Sightseeing on Long Island is great fun, especially with a group. What better way to enjoy the sights? There are no worries about traveling alone, somebody always has a camera and if you take the Long Island Railroad (LIRR), there’s never a need for a designated driver. If you are considering an outing for your office or group, consider using the Long Island Railroad--the discount for traveling with thirty or more people can go up to sixty percent.

The savings are just part of the deal. The LIRR offers help in planning the trip. Your Customer Service rep will be happy to assist you in working out a route to your destination and the details of the return journey. One feature that’s most helpful for group travel is the Individual Return Ticket, which lets everyone in your party decide on their own when to return, instead of requiring the entire group to come back at the same time.

Everyone knows how difficult it can be to get a group of people coordinated when it comes to mass transit. The LIRR will provide a customer sales rep to meet your group at Penn Station and insure that you get to your destination. There’s also help available for your return trip. So far so good, but what about using the subway once your journey on the LIRR is over? The group discount qualifies your party for a twenty-five percent discount on round-trip subway fare, too!

Now for the fine print. In addition to the Penn Station "meet and greet" your group may also be eligible for a subway escort. Groups larger than sixty qualify for the subway escort option. The escort for this portion of the journey will be a New York Transit Conductor, so the person who meets you at Penn Station may not be the same as your escort through the subway system. If your group needs additional mass transit, LIRR does offer a bus charter, but check with a Long Island Railroad Customer Service rep to make sure you’ll need the service—if you aren’t familiar with your destination area, they can help you figure out exactly what you may need to plan the remainder of your journey. Regardless of the size of the group, you’ll need to book your tickets and other arrangements at least two weeks in advance.

There are many destinations to try using the Long Island Rail Road group discount, but if you’re thinking of visiting the Hamptons as a group, ask about the Long Island Rail Road summer reserve service to the East End. This feature is only available in the summer time, but there is an off-peak service that is also available. You can take advantage of the off-peak season to dine in the restaurants which are packed for the summer, explore a winery during the harvest or check out the farm stands. There are plenty of fun excursions to be had!

For sales and reservation information, call the Long Island Rail Road at (718) 558-7498. You can also visit the Long Island Railroad website at http://mta.info/lirr/
