White rectangular blazes mark the trails and one winding along this great path will encounter all that nature has to offer. Forests with large trees and exquisite birds will greet one at every turn. The hike can be long or short depending upon the length of time one wishes to spend on the trail.
Money Pond Trail in Montauk is another great trail in which to embark on a hiking adventure. Serene ponds and skirting wildlife are things which hikers will encounter on this stretch of trailway. Green signs and blazes mark this magnificent trail and let the hiker know that they are on the right track. The trail was named Money Pond Trail with regard to the legend that money was buried in this area by Captain Kidd, however whether that is true or not is up to interpretation. Calverton Pond Preserve If one is looking for a place to go hiking in Riverhead, Calverton Pond Preserve may just be the place to try. Suffolk County Parks and the The Nature Conservancy jointly operate this beautiful stretch of land. Located on the Peconic River, this wonderful preserve is nature at its best. Known for its rare species, some of which are endangered, Calverton Pond Preserve is a great place to come and view the wildlife, fish, and amphibians that call Calverton Pond their home. Hiking through this area, one will truly come to appreciate nature. These are just some of the wonderful hiking options one has to choose from in the Long Island area.
