The Long Island Rail Road’s Package Deals
The Long Island package tours are seasonal and most are advertised only in the spring. However, the LIRR offers many year-round packages for those coming from LI to Manhattan. You can save up to forty five percent on trips and admissions. These trips include visits to the American Museum of Natural History, CNN and many other destinations! One of the best of these package tours is the New York Madame Tussaud’s trip. This famous wax museum offers a wide range of American celebrities duplicated in amazing detail—from Lucy Ball to Lance Armstrong; you’ll find plenty of familiar (wax) faces. This package tour also includes admission to the Chamber Live! Attraction which is based on the Universal Studios film House Of Wax. Hours for this package are from 10AM to 10PM, but keep in mind that the last admission for the attractions is 8PM. Another great package deal Long Islanders can arrange for their out-of-towners is the Manhattan TV and Movie tour. This includes a visit to the apartment building made famous in “Friends,” plus a look at locations used in “The Apprentice,” “The Cosby Show,” and “Will & Grace”. You’ll also get a look at a number of locations used in Hollywood blockbusters; “Spiderman”, “You’ve Got Mail,” and “Ghostbusters,” just to name a few. http://www.mta.nyc.ny.us/lirr/getaways/ is the Long Island Railroad’s website for the getaway packages. Here you’ll find listings for both Manhattan and Long Island. You will also find a list of service advisories—this is an important place to look prior to booking your trip. Service advisories include information about skipped stops, interrupted service on lines undergoing maintenance and any other situation that could cause a break in the normal operation of that particular line. Many of the sub-headings under the advisories section are updated on Fridays, so double check before you head out on a trip! That little bit of preparation, plus a double check of the weather forecast will give you all the information you need to make your journey a pleasant experience. It’s important to remember that the Long Island Rail Road offers these package discounts as an incentive to ride the rails—the LIRR does not administer the tours. LIRR is not responsible for your experiences once you leave the rail system, and you may be required to pay for your own meals, in-attraction expenses and souvenirs. For more information on any of the tours listed in this article, or to get a complete list of this year’s offerings, call 516-822-LIRR (Nassau); 631-231-LIRR (Suffolk); 718-217-LIRR (NYC).
