LONG ISLAND THEATRES

Long Island Theatres: See a Show without Having to Travel to New York City

The New York City area has arguably one of the best theatre districts in the continental United States. However, many people often find it difficult to get into the city or wish to see a show close to home. For those individuals who live on Long Island, the answer is right under one’s nose. Long Island has a few different theatres which are entertaining and convenient all rolled into one.

Gateway Playhouse

One particular theatre and playhouse which has been in operation for the past 55 years is the Gateway Playhouse. The Gateway Playhouse is located in Bellport, New York. This summer operational musical theatre hosts a number of fascinating shows at a fraction of the price which one would have to pay to see a show on Broadway. Some of the past productions hosted at the Gateway Playhouse included Evita, The Full Monty, 42nd Street and Aida. This is a wonderful theatre to attend should one wish to view a fantastic show in a convenient location.

Bay Street Theatre

The Bay Street Theatre is another place where one who lives on Long Island or is visiting the area can go to see a good show without having to travel too far away. The Bay Street Theatre calls Sag Harbor home and is a not-for-profit organization. Shows such as West Side Story, A Star Is Born and Breakfast at Tiffany’s have all been featured at the Bay Street Theatre. In addition to shows, the Bay Street Theatre also offers various workshops such as the Playwriting Workshop and Creative Dramatics Workshop for those interested in learning a bit more about certain aspects of the theatre.

These are just two popular theatres which call Long Island their home. Should individuals wish to see a play or musical but not want to have to take the train in or drive to New York City, these theatres offer a wonderful alternative to seeing Broadway shows. Attending a show at one of these fantastic theatres is a great way to spend the evening.
