What to Bring When engaging in mountain biking, it is important to wear the proper clothing and have some extra items along for the ride. As for clothing, make sure to wear layers so that one can eliminate extra clothing as the day goes on. With that said, it is important to wear clothing that is snug and will not get caught in the gears or spokes while riding. It is also essential that the rider carries some bottled water and a portable bike pump along with them while riding. The proper safety equipment, such as a bike helmet and possibly knee/arm pads, is also necessary to make the ride as enjoyable and protective as possible. Where to Go

It is important to note that certain safety gear is required, such as helmets and eyewear, as is a permit to be able to ride the trails. A permit can be obtained by contacting the State Department of Environmental Conservation. Wherever individuals live or are visiting in the Long Island area, there is sure to be a mountain biking area nearby which will delight individuals of all ages and all mountain biking abilities. Mountain biking on Long Island is a wonderful way to get outside and view nature all the while getting a great workout. Although this type of biking has the term “mountain” in it, one does not need to go to the mountains in order to indulge in some fantastic mountain biking. All one needs is a little rough terrain and an adventuresome spirit.
