Spend the Day at Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park
What to Do at Planting Fields There are a number of things to do at Planting Fields that will entertain children and adults alike. For those who are interested in history and antiques, the Coe Hall House Museum is a must see. The former residence of the Coe family, consisting of the well-known oil heiress, Mai Rogers Coe, and insurance tycoon, William Robertson Coe, is a magnificent estate to see. Not only for its beautiful architecture, but for what lies within it as well. For those who are more interested in the natural aspect of things, Planting Fields provides a couple of different greenhouses for individuals to tour. The 409 acres of Planting Fields also provides a number of hiking trails for its visitors to follow along as well as a quaint gift shop, called the Garden Gift Shop, for those who wish to do a little shopping along the way. General Information The general grounds of Planting Fields are open from 9 am to 5 pm every day, except for Christmas. For each individual building and tour, there are various hours scheduled depending upon the building and time of year. For example, the Coe Hall House Museum guided tours are offered from April 1 to September 30 from 12 pm to 3:30 pm. The cost of engaging in the Coe Hall tours are extremely reasonable where adults pay $5, seniors and students pay $3.50 and children ages 7 to 12 pay $1. The two greenhouses are open year round. The Main Greenhouse is open from 10 am to 4:30 pm and the Camellia Greenhouse is open from 10 am to 4 pm. If one is looking to spend the day learning about history in the way of architecture and artifacts or simply viewing beautiful greenery and flowers in the Planting Fields greenhouses, then the Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park is the place to visit.
