SUPERBOWL PREVIEW 2005

Ooops…we almost forgot….only 7 more days until Super Bowl Sunday.
Sorry, about that. We were already looking past the Super bowl and looking forward to the New York Dragons season opener, which takes place just hours before the REAL Super Bowl here at Nassau Coliseum. We will be covering the Dragons all season long, with a pre-season look at the team expected next week. Meanwhile, we have that "other" big game to report on.

After 17 weeks of regular season games, 8 weeks of training camp, and 3 weeks of playoffs, it’s now down to 2 teams in a sixty-minute battle for the right to be called Super Bowl Champion. This game, like many others over the years looks like…well…a bore. Instead of ordering a 6-foot hero for your party, may I suggest something more like 25 inches? Why 25? Because that’s how many points the New England Patriots will beat the Philadelphia Eagles by in this game. So, one inch per point seems…adequate.

The reasons for the blowout are numerous, but here are a few:

1) Last week WAS the Eagles Super Bowl. After three straight failures, the finally made it to the big game. THAT was their goal this year, just to make it. They did, and they’re done. Emotionally…they’re already playing 18 holes at Pebble Beach.

2) The Patriots are just THAT GOOD. I don’t know why it is, but no one ever seems to take the Patriots seriously. Maybe it’s because they don’t have a superstar on the roster, or because their uniforms are ho-hum at best. Or maybe it’s because they don’t have a city. Even the 49’ers, who managed to win 2 games all season, have a home city (San Francisco, last I looked). But the Patriots seem to simply float around in New England. Ok, so they play their games in Foxboro. You ever been to Foxboro? No one will ever confuse Foxboro with a city. They have the same amount of 7-11’s as they do football stadiums…ONE.

3) Not only are the Patriots too good, they are so well coached, and are such a well run organization from the ground up, they put the others to shame. Their coaching staff will have their players so ready for the Eagles, that by halftime, the only thing that will be left to determine will be who will win your office pool.

So, have some friends over, enjoy the three days of pre-game shows, and the week of hype. We’ve been lucky the past few years by having some very entertaining Super Bowls. This year, it will be the return of the blowout, where the only good reason to watch will be to see the commercials.
