AUBURNDALE, LONG ISLAND

Near perfect!

Vast open spaces that include extensive sports and recreation opportunities, convenient access to both downtown and beaches, all the shopping that you need on a recurring basis and neat and affordable homes that families love: the attractions of Auburndale seem utopian to people who come to live in Queens, and it is a strong choice for families from around the world. It begs the question as to why some home owners prefer to rent their Auburndale realty rather than live in it, but it certainly works to the advantage of people who would like to rent residences rather than make permanent commitments to Queens.

Auburndale lies between Murray Hill and Bayside in northern Queens , with middle-class tenants from all parts of the globe as its temporary residents. It has been developed as a model residential township within easy reach of both the downtown area as well as some of the best Long Island beaches. The Long Island Rail Road and the Bus Service have extensive and frequent services linking the area. Though commuting to and from Auburndale is convenient, everything from good schools to extensive shopping is available right in the neighborhood. Many people actually visit Auburndale from other towns to buy ingredients for Greek food and to take advantage of the vast meat center.

The Cunningham Park is another attraction in Auburndale that brings in large crowds from other areas every summer. The Metropolitan Opera and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra choose Cunningham and Auburndale for their outreach performances in Queens and many smaller social organizations use the vast grounds for special events and for festivals. The Big Apple Circus also sets up its tents here each year, though the accompanying din and rubbish make them a bit unwelcome by some residents. It has an area of over 350 acres. It was originally called Hillside and bears its present name in memory of a distinguished State official. The Park has tremendous value for residents, for such generous sports and recreation and sheer greenery in rare in an urban setting. It has some of the best settings for tennis in the area, and joggers and those who like to walk, frequent the Park as well. There are more than 20 ball fields and a basketball court. Schools, for this reason, favor Cunningham for their sports events. Bocce and cricket are relatively gentle and lesser-known sports, for which enthusiasts use Cunningham Park. A most endearing part of Cunningham Park is the thickly wooded forest that has existed from the days of the Native Matinecock Indians. The forest also has remnants of farms that were established in this part of Queens soon after the first Europeans arrived. It is a bird watcher's delight, for such extensive sighting is not possible so close to downtown. The Clearview Golf Course and the Kissens Park add to the recreation options of Auburndale residents.

Individual 2-storey homes dominate Auburndale realty. Studio rents are around $ 700 and a 2-bedroom house can be had for about twice that monthly amount. The neighborhood is favored by people new to the New York area or even to the United States, and who would like an international ambience in to which they can settle quickly and well.
