Prospect Heights, Long Island
 Prospect Heights is a neighborhood located in Brooklyn, Long Island, New York. It lies between Park Slope and Crown Heights and bounded by Flatbush Avenue, Atlantic Avenue, Eastern Parkway and Washington Avenue. Prospect Heights is relatively small compared to other Brooklyn neighborhoods and is famous for its cultural diversity as well as its tree-lined streets. The neighborhood is served by 77th Precinct which also covers Crown Heights and Weeksville has recorded an average of 10 murders, 16 rapes and 211 robberies within a year. It has approximately 25,000 people living in the area and a median household income of $20,000 (1990 estimate).
The neighborhood is graced with richly crafted turn-of-the-century brownstone-style residential rowhouse buildings. Some of them were built as early as 1890 although some blocks such as Lincoln and St. Johns Place between Underhill and Washington Avenues that include multi-unit apartment buildings. In 1977, the study showed that there was a loss of 27 percent in the total population which was caused by the decreasing of rooming houses in the neighborhood. Recently, a controversy has erupted in the neighborhood about the very much anticipating Atlantic Yards Project proposed by developer Bruce Ratner which was opposed by certain community groups believing the project abuses the principles of eminent domain.
Many notable people living in the area such as Foxy Brown (rapper), Aaron Copland (composer), Joan Rivers (comedian), and Tillamook Cheddar (canine artist). The neighborhood is largely an Italian, Jewish, and German neighborhood in the 1910s through the 1950s, Prospect Heights is currently well known for its mixed black and white culture. It is well known for its Caribbean culture. Every year the West Indian Day Parade follows Eastern Parkway, beginning in Crown Heights and ending at Grand Army Plaza. The Brooklyn Botanic Garden is the most famous attractions in the neighborhood. The Garden is adjacent to the historic brownstone community of Park Slope with a number of specialty gardens, plant collections, and the Steinhardt Conservatory, which houses the C.V. Starr Bonsai Museum, three climate-themed plant pavilions, an aquatic house, and an art gallery. Another is Brooklyn Museum which is the second largest art museum in New York City. It has a permanent collection of more than one-and-a-half million objects from ancient Egyptian masterpieces to contemporary art, and the art of many other cultures. The three commercial streets such as Underhill, Flatbush, and Washington avenues have only a few bars and restaurants compared to Vanderbilt Avenue that has plenty of it. Among of the places to eat are the Tom's Restaurant, Ginger Root Café, and The Islands specializes jerk shrimp, escoveitched snapper, and okra. The Turner Towers on Eastern Parkway is the most expensive building in Prospect Heights that spent $100 million for the renovation project.
