Do you find it hard to afford a home, pay your taxes, and still have money to enjoy life? If the problems sound familiar, you're not alone.
Mike Urbinder is a 29-year-old newlywed who just lost his job and had no choice but to move in with his wife's family in Wantagh. The couple wants the American dream but Urbinder says buying his own house on Long Island, where property taxes are high and the median home in Nassau County is more than $400,000, is just that -- a dream.
Urbinder's solution is to relocate to Florida where he says he and his wife can pay off their debt, save for a down payment, and eventually buy a large one-family home for under $165,000. And the Urbinders are not alone. A study called the Long Island Index found that 18,000 24 to 35-year-olds packed up and left Long island in just one year.
