HELP Needed - LI travel recommendations

I will be traveling from the south through New Jersey Turnpike to exit 13, over Verrazano Bridge and east across LI expressway to Setauket, NY this Friday afternoon/evening 12/4. I know that Friday afternoon is going to be the worst time to travel. I have no choice in traveling at that time. Are there any recommended alternate routes that might ease the stress level of the drive somewhat?

When you cross over the Verazano bridge you'll be on the belt parkway (which turns into the Southern State Parkway). If you just stay on that heading east, you 'll be able to avoid truck and commercial traffic as they are not aload on the parkway.You can then take that all the way to Sunken Meadow Parkway North (Right After the Exits for Deerpark Avenue Rt 231 and then Robert Moses Causeway - it's around exit 41) to exit SM1E - (Sunken Meadow 1 East)

That will bring you out to Route 347 which brings you to the Setauket area.....
