We are about to start Foster/Adopt journey - any tips?

Hi, we are about to attend an orientation class in Long Island on adopting a child through the state. We prefer to open our home to a school-age child, as these are the children who usually get stuck in the foster system for their entire lives. (seems most people want the little ones).

Anyway, these are adolescent kids whose parent's parental rights have been terminated due to abuse/neglect.

Does anyone else here on LI exchange have any tips/advice?
