I am moving to Mastic Beach/Shirley area and I am debating on whether to buy a house. Everything I have seen in the 250K range hasn't been anything I wanted to spend that much on. My current 3 bd 2 bath 1550sq ft was only $89,900. So this is definitely a culture shock for me. With everything being so expensive I want to buy a mobile home and if I see that I can afford to, then later on about a year then buy a home. I was wondering what are the disadvantages of living in one up there?? Down here there are so many hurricanes so nobody even thinks about owning one. Thanks for the help!

What area are you moving from?
The price of housing here is nothing short of incredible.... I'd say $300,000 is about an average budget to shop....
I don't know anyone with a mobile home up here, they aren't that popular here....

I don't want to stretch my budget so after I am there a year I might end up buying. But I have seen several Manufactured homes on mlsli.com in Riverhead and one in Hampton Bays. I am coming from the Panhandle of Florida!
Anyone know some disadvantages??

Normally these are in awful condition though. That's why I have been leaning toward a mobile home instead! Like this one:

That's not lookin bad for a mobile home...
Inside is really nice.....
No real disadvantages that I am aware of, just don't see then much at all.... I'm in western Suffolk.... I'm sure they are more common out east.....

Cool! I will be working in Westhampton so will need something somewhat close. I will probably buy $300K house in a year, but want to make sure I can afford the cost of living first before getting it. I have been pre-approved with many different companies and have been rate shopping, but not ready for a house up there yet. Thanks for the help!

Ohhhh okkkk....when you mention "mobil homes" i thought its something that you can move around. Now i see what you mean. The beige one looks like a ranch house...i say go after that 1.
Good luck w. it ... and by the way---welcome to long island!!!:cool1:
