Bay Shore -
Connect my father's computer to our existing computer cablevision connection!
We need a reasonably priced cable t.v. line installed.
We have the cable lines already in the house-- we just need to get my father's pc in another part of the house hooked up to it!
Not sure what parts/wires we need, etc.
Pennysaver ads were no help.
If you are, or you know of any retired installers who want to make a little cash, please let us know! thanks. Rush job.... need this like yesterday!

Hi,
I've done a number of installs for friends. I'm also a Computer programmer. Hooking up a broadband cable hookup for a computer can be far more complicated then hooking up another cable tv which is basically running another cable and plugging it into the TV. Computer cabling is more sensitive to cable signal loss and bandwidth. So doing a cable run for a few bucks many be a waste of time for you.,
Questions:
1. Do you have a cable modem not a cable box but a cable modem? Have
you plugged it in to make sure the lights come on?
2. How many times have you split the coax cable in the house? Do you have an unsplit coax from the cable box to the cable entrance? Is it split at the Cable entrance, for example, for a separate apartment?
2. Have you purchased a High bandwidth 2GHZ splitter (not a 900 Mhz splitter)?
3. Have you purchased the length of coax cable that you need, a high quality cable (cable quality is an issue for computers but not as much for TV sets)?
4. Once the cables are all installed , do you know how to setup your computer
to get it all working, TCP/IP connectivy, dial backup etc..?
If you just want a cable run, look up telephone wire installers in Pennysaver.
If you me to do the job, it's $150 without materials.
