The bandits walked into an unlocked house in Bellport, N.Y., in the afternoon and demanded money from the six women, the police said.
One of the men slapped the homeowner in the face when she tried to run into a bathroom, and the thieves fled with cash and one women's purse, police said.
"The front door was open, and they just walked in," Suffolk County Police Detective Sgt. Daniel Molloy said.
Police said the robbery did not appear to be part of a rash of recent home invasions on Long Island in which victims were resting or asleep.
