Thank you for this forum. I have a friend who has an odd phobia. He has difficulty with this situation. Due to health problems, he did not renew his driver's license. It lapsed. To get a new license, he has to go through the whole procedure of getting a learner's permit, etc. He is in his 40's and drove a long time. I think he could pass the learner's permit and what follows. The problem is the following; I will try to explain it but it is somewhat difficult. When he goes into the Motor Vehicle Dept. in Amityville, he has panic attacks, due to the crowd of people. I know this sounds somewhat strange. He just gets very nervous and has to leave. He is fine otherwise. Unfortunately, there is always a crowd there. I thought somewhat might have a suggestion to get around this problem. He needs to drive to get to medical appointments and does not want to drive without a license. He has no trouble driving on the roads. Any help would be appreciated. Email is MAL19782002@YAHOO.COM. Thanks for the time and for reading this.

Hello.... As I do not have much to alleviate the problem I would like to atleast give you my thoughts on it..
I do know that if you let your licence expire for a long period of time, you do have to go through the entire process again, so there is likely to be no way around him having to retake the written and driving skills tests...
They only thing I can think of in this type of situation, is geting at the DMV very early when they first open the doors...
On another thought, I would try getting a note from his doctor detailing the situation. If you speak to the general manager at the Amityville DMV, I feel pretty confident by showing them a letter from your friends doctor, that if there is any possible way to cater specifically to him and smooth over the process, they will let you know... I have never heard of them doing something like this before, but I would be willing to guess that if they see that this is a legitimate issue that you atleast consulted your doctor on, they may try to do their best at helping out...
In a perfect situation, one would hope that there could be some before or after hours appointment that could be arrainged.. Even if they could just open the doors for him 15 minutes early, it would be a big help...
It's definetly worth a shot... ;)
