This is new to me so here goes. I just got a serious blow to my world, I was laid off and it came without warning. They laid off 150 people from a place I thought I was secure until I retire. HA! They made deep cuts, I was last man hired, so I was on the hit list. Performance meant nothing. Anyway I am bored, a little bummed out and here I am. They gave me a 3-month severance so I am going to relax, enjoy the holidays and bounce back in January. In the meantime I am hanging out. If you want to chat drop me a line.

Hey Rick! Welcome!
That's a real bummer --- You would have thought that they could have atleast waited till after the holidays to do the layoff.... So much for having a stress free holiday....
May be better off though......Wouldn't have made a great new year either..... Atleast you can relax for a bit and deal with it after the holiday...
Good luck in your search, and with some luck you find something better and be glad in the end.... What's that saying? The Lord works in mysterious ways?
That will work if you are a catholic/christian... ;)

Thanks Clasione.
I do happen to be a devote Christian, thank God!
We always say, "and this too shall pass" when someone hits a speed bump in their life travels. I appreciate the good words.
Have a Merry CHRISTmas. I will, cause i have to much to be thankful of.

I'm from Oceanside and retired after 33 years in the NY Transit System. I left as a Director of Production Planning. I'm also a writer: marinosward.com has some of my published pieces. I've been on Long Island for 27 years. If you count Brooklyn--and you should since geographically it's part of Long Island--I've been here all of my 65 years. I fish the area, both fresh water and salt--sometimes both in one day. I don't own a boat. (although I'm the proud owner of half of an electric trolling motor which sees action at Blydenburg Park some two or three times a year.)
In my house there are three dogs, two cats, and a wife. (No I'm not brave to list the habitats residing here in that order; my wife never sees my files.)
The two drawbacks to retirement are that you tend to bump into your wife to often, and the other is...well...your old...senior citizen discounts notwithstanding.
The dogs: One--which I swear is a labradoodle--was a shelter rescue. Two: a Beagle who was about to be sent to a shelter by an owner who had two Beagles and was about to take both to a shelter. I talked her out of it through negotiations: I'll take one if she keeps the other. Three: my daughter's Cockapoo who we mind while she goes to work. The cats? they're about ten years apart and were both taken in because they were kittens and some @##$$%% probably through them out.
My wife? We met in Brooklyn, we married.
So what's happening in your neck of The Isle?

Hey Rich --- very nice to meet you....
It's funny, but your post brings out something that I think many many people disagree about.... I for one think that Brooklyn and Queens is very much a part of Long Island...
http://www.longislandexchange.com/towns.html :vibes:
Although they belong to the 5 boroughs and New York City, they are still very much a part of Long Island. ANyd you couldn't of said it better:
Geographically, they are a part of the Island.
Anyways - nice to meet you.. ;)

Thanks. Good to be here.
Brooklyn--I'll bet most Islanders, or their parents came from Brooklyn. The rest of those Brooklyn folks are in Staten Island.
I looked around your board. Maybe I missed it. I don't see a fishing thread. Here we are on Long Island where you can't throw a rock and not have it fall into a pond, bay, or ocean and there's no fishing thread? Where else am I gonna lie about my fishing exploits?

Both my parents were from Brooklyn and my wifes parents as well - You have a very good point there.....
And as far as the fishing forum ---- Can you believe no-one actually ever suggested it..... I'm going ot make a new area for that because it is a great idea.....
