View Full Version : Where Should I Go?

I had some fun apartment hunting the other day. I found some nice places and 2 really nice places. I can't make up my mind now between a place in Patchogue that's right off the bay and a place in Port Jeff I was referred to by an agent at another place that I was late to see. Assuming that both apartments would make me equally happy, which area would I be better off to consider? The new job is in Hauppauge and the maps I got from Google are telling me the commute is about the same from either place. Any insight here on what to do? The place in PJ has its own washer and dryer, is about 20 years newer and costs $145 a month more than Hauppauge. Any ideas, or should I look at a couple of tiebreaker places (which are farther out)? I'm gettin' crazy here!

What about trying to find somewhere closer.....?
Like Islip.... That's not far from hauppage.... That industrial area is accessible from alot of places being that it is off the Long Island Expressway....
Patchouge is probably a little further, or at least it seems like it would be cause it's on the south shore.....
Babylon is also a good and reasonably priced area which is not far from Hauppage... It's like 20 minuets which isn't a bad commute...... Especially North babylon which is very close to Southern State Parkway.
Deer Park is good too.... Just a little North of Babylon...
Basically - if your on the north shore, then you have LIE to get you there.... But even if you are coming from Babylon area, you have Southern State Parkway which meets the Sagitos ----- Sagtikos Parkway is a key parkway that will take you right into Hauppage if you coming from the south west direction.....
Good news is that there are tons of ways to get to the Hauppauge Industrial Park..

There is a great apt company called "fairfeild properties"
They actually have complexes all over the island, I would recommend calling them!

Been there, done that and might end up renting from them. They own the two places I'm most interested in. Fairfield On The Bay is the place in Patchogue, and their place in Port Jeff used to be Sylvan Meadows. Google Maps says they're both about 20 minutes from work, so in that regard it's a toss-up. But I've been thinking today that there's an awful lot I can do with an extra $145 each month, so I'm kinda leaning towards Patchogue.
I may call Babylon and Deer Park to see how they stack up, too.

What sucks about LI is locations.
Waterfront, waterbound towns are more money. Nassau = same thing... more expensive...
Suffolk I've found that the more off the road and farther west the cheaper but soon as you reach Mastic it goes back up again.

Think I've got it. I pre-applied to Fairfield On The Bay in Patchogue today. The Great South Bay is literally in the backyard, and I'd be paying $1130 a month, which must not be bad by LI standards (but wait 'til you hear what I pay in PA!). All goes well, I should be living there mid-May. Gonna have a REAL fun commute to Hauppauge 'til then.
Checked out Middle Island too while I was out, but the den and new community and fitness centers didn't make up for the far-out location and bad rep they got on apartmentratings.com. Oh well...

Yea - believe it or not, $1130 is not too bad for out here, and plus, your in a development, so there isn't much to worry about as far as things being the way they should.... Fairfield is huge....

I personally like Patchogue way better than Middle Island,
I think you made a good choice,
Welcome to the neighborhood!

Thanks! Oh, f'got to mention: part of the deal is that I'd get new carpet and a totally remodeled kitchen. With a glass-top stove! And a range-top microwave!
And since I'd be so close to Fire Island, what is it like there? I hear it's awesome.
