Internet advertising is becoming a mainstream necessity for advertising your business. Everyday that goes by people become more interested in how and exactly why advertising a business on the internet generates more leads.
At the same time, advertising online can be a daughting task as it is somewhat confusing to decide where advertising would be the most beneficial. People are hearing the names "Google", "MSN" and "Yahoo" almost everyday on the news, this only peaks more interest..
Lets start off with a basic question:
So where do you advertise your business and how much should you expect to pay?
Advertising online could cost you as much or as little as you want. If you pick the right places to list your business, you could easily spend next to nothing. The important thing is that you get started with some type of budget.
Compare what you are spending on traditional ads like newspapers or mailings and just diversify a bit. If you take 1/3 of your marketing budget each month and start investing it into internat advertising you can then make your own decisions.
A good example is a friend of mine. Just recently he spent $3,000 on a local newspaper advertisment and he recieved one phone call from it. The person wasn't actually intersted in his business, but instead was calling to complain about something written in his ad.... Now since the paper is only printed for a weekend, we can safely say that this was a total loss, except for maybe some small amount of branding of his company name in the paper. You have to weight you losses. In this example it was $3k.
I was explaining to him that he could have invested that budget into internet advertising and he would have been more likely to see a better return for a longer amount of time as internet advertising generally lasts longer as it's circulation is usually much greater and lasts a longer amount of time.
He agreed, but my point is that the internet advertising goes a long way especially if you have a website that you are promoting and the expense includes pointing links at your site from wherever your advertising. This can be considered "link building" and will bring internet traffic to your website. It also effects how your site ranks in search engines which is really another discussion. Then it is your job to make sure you close the lead by having a good site that people are willing to do business with.
If you target the right audience, and your website is setup well that it converts visitor to customer, then your job is simply to increase visitors.
I'll try to post more soon, but for now, if you have any questions, post it here in the business section or just reply to this message. :)
