What's up! I can use all the advice you have to offer. I'm 24 years old now, but when I was 15 I was struck with a severe social anxiety. My anxiety was so bad that I dropped out of high school. I'm finally over my anxiety and try to go out more often. My only problem now is....how do I find people to hang out with? I work full time and most of the employees at this company are in their fourties or fifties. I'd like to meet people my own age. Men and women. It's espicially hard for me to find male friends to hang out with because I'm a guy and don't want other guys to think I'm gay.

Hey what's up?
Sounds like you have a big issue there....
I don't see how you could hide such a thing when youur twenty four....
at 24 a straight guy only thinks about 1 thing... How could you hide something like that to a close friend....?

A) While I know you're mainly teasing him, not all guys that age think about sex all the time. ^^ I know I don't...wait, I'm a girl...well anyway I probably think about it more than you males do, heheh...
B) Who cares if you're gay? If the guys think that when you're just trying to be friends, they're homophobes, or they're gay and afraid to think about it so they're transferring to you their fears.
C) Search Yahoo. Do a location search on Yahoo messenger. It finds people in your area with whom you can hang out. That's why weird ppl IM me constantly...^^

Those who responded said what's the big deal if he is gay. I didn't read his post that way. My understanding is that he just wants friends, and some male friends to hang out with as guys do hang with other guys playing sports, fishing, etc....and gossiping more than girls do (yeah - even the straight one's)! lol. But he is afraid that if he tries to be friends with a guy - just a friend - that guys might think he's gay because he wants to spend time with them. It's no big deal - straight guys meet new straight guy friends all the time - but this guy who posted had a serious anxiety disorder and for him making friends and seeing things as they really are is difficult. He'll have a tendency to dramatize situations and get all worried over things others wouldn't even think about. I guess Peterjp80 will have to return and let us know whether he's gay or just worried people will think he is if he tries to make friends with guys as well as girls. Peterjp80 -- where are you??

I never really understood the gay thing, and I probably never will.... But I do know a couple guys that are gay. It's just one of those things.... I was always kind of against it - but for the few I know, they are pretty cool... It's just something I don't understand - But I still like them as people.....
