Patti LaBelle and Cognac Wellerlane Private Luncheon 01/25/2006 - The Ritz Carlton Exclusive Photos on Film Magic: Ms. LaBelle and Ms. Wellerlane met a couple of years ago at the Dennis Basso Fur Fashion Show. Ms. Wellelane was covering the event for her Television Show Cognac's Corner. Talk Show Host TV Personality Cognac Wellerlane interviews moviestars and celebrities at red carpet events and the two met again yesterday at the Ritz Carlton. These two fabulous ladies were seen together chatting and talking about old times. The beautiful, glamorous and incomparable soul diva Patti LaBelle has earned her title famously. This award winning songstress has enjoyed a remarkable contemporary music career for 40 years. Ms. LaBelle's range is girl group pop, to lush sexy ballads to space-age funk. Patti is a Philadelphia girl born Patricia Holt on October 4, 1944. Her early years started singing in the local Baptist choir. Patti's love for music and performing lead her to friend Cindy Birdsong and later both started a group called the Ordettes. The group later evolved to The Blue Belles with producer Bobby Martin at its helm that scored a R& B hit in 1962 with the famous single "I Sold My Heart to the Junkman". In 1965 they were signed to Atlantic Records and their hit was a version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow". The glamorous LaBelle decided to go solo in 1977. In addition to subsequent releases including 1979's "It's Alright with Me and 1980's Released, LaBelle now turned to another level of her career by co-starring in a 1982 Broadway revival of "Your Arms To Short To Box with God. After signing with the Philadelphia International label, she enjoyed several hits "If You Only Knew," and "I’m in Love Again". Two Years later it was the pop Top 20 with her Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack contribution "New Attitude". Some other hits are "The Winner in You", "On My Own", "Be Yourself" and "Burnin" which earned her grammy in 1991. Ms. LeBelle published her own autobiography in 1995 "Don't Block the Blessings: Revelations of a Lifetime." She recently released "When a Woman Loves". Ms. LaBelle has enjoyed much success throughout the years and the respect of her peers but has been quoted as saying "My success in not measured by (book and record) sales or all the accolades, really. To have the respect of people who want to come listen to me.
