LONG ISLAND CURVES HELPS TSUNAMIS

New York Area Curves Open Their Doors to Help the Tsunamis Smallest Victims

Long Island, NY – From East Hampton to Brooklyn Heights, CURVES, the largest chain of fitness and weight loss centers has banded together to help build an orphanage in the Tsunami ravaged Galle District of Sri Lanka.

“The support has been amazing,” said Winkie Schultz, the owner of the Patchogue Curves. “It began as a local event here in Medford and Patchogue and now it’s spread throughout the Island. More Curves franchisees are coming on board every day.”

It started when a member of the Patchogue Curves donated land to build the orphanage. In less than a week’s time, over 65 Curves clubs have banded together to raise money to help build the orphanage. Indira Amarasinghe, a Curves member for the last eleven months, lost a family home and a cousin to the Tsunami disaster; other relatives are still missing. She and her husband have pledged to donate their family inherited land (12 acres) to build the orphanage.

“It’s astonishing,” said Indira Amarasinge, “Curves members are the most generous people. Who knew when I joined Curves, I’d gain the support of over 65 clubs.”

It is estimated that it will cost over three million dollars to build the orphanage. Curves franchisees hope to raise $1,000 each. Curves International has a matching donation program; this would double the donation, which could raise well over $100,000.00 for the orphanage.

Typically closed on Sunday, the participating Curves franchisees will open their doors from 11am – 3pm on Sunday, January 30th. The clubs are suggesting a $10.00 donation to the Sri Lanka orphanage fund and100% of the proceeds will be donated to construction of the orphanage. Attendees will receive the Curves thirty-minute circuit training work out along with a free figure and body fat analysis. Personal instructors and the Curves staff are donating their time for the event and will be on hand supervising the workouts. You do not have to be a member of Curves to participate.

“My members are so excited and have vowed to bring in daughters, grandmothers, sisters, even their husbands.” What a great way to start the New Year by helping the children of Sri Lanka re-build their lives, said Lynn Gross, owner of the Baldwin Curves.
