DEE SNIDER’S 3rd ANNUAL BIKERS FOR BABIES RIDE Presented by Lighthouse Harley-Davidson of Huntington, NY Woodbury, NY – January 24, 2005 – On Sunday, May 15, 2005, nearly 2,000 motorcycle enthusiasts are expected to join Dee Snider (lead singer of Twisted Sister) to help the March of Dimes raise money to pursue its mission, to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality. Premature birth affects more than 460,000 babies in the United States every year, and no one knows what causes it. The emotional and financial cost of babies born premature is staggering and it is the leading cause of infant death in the first month of life. That is why the March of Dimes launched a five-year, $75 million dollar campaign to educate women to the signs and symptoms of premature birth, and to raise the funds to conduct much needed research into the causes of prematurity. The goal of the campaign is to reduce the rate of premature birth by 15 % by 2007. "Premature birth is a bigger problem than most people think. I know – two of my four children were born prematurely. By riding in this event, you will not only support the March of Dimes efforts to raise awareness of the problem of prematurity as well as support research to save babies right here on Long Island and across the nation but you will have an amazing time hanging around, and riding with, a really great bunch of people," says Dee Snider, Ride Celebrity Chair. Dee Snider’s 3rd Annual Bikers for Babies Ride Dee Snider’s 3rd Annual Bikers for Babies Ride will begin at 1600 Stewart Avenue in Westbury. Registration begins at 9:00am with the official start of the Ride (kickstands up in motorcycle language) at 11:00am. The route is as follows: Meadowbrook Parkway South to Ocean Parkway East; Ocean Parkway East to Robert Moses Causeway North; Robert Moses Causeway North to Sunrise Highway East; Sunrise Highway East to North Ocean Avenue. The Ride will culminate at the Town of Brookhaven’s Town Hall, One Independence Hill in Farmingville. This event is open to the public and all motorcycle enthusiasts are welcome to join in the Ride, which is sanctioned by the American Motorcycle Association. A small registration fee of $25.00 entitles the rider to participate in the Ride, lunch, entertainment and a commemorative pin. Riders are encouraged to get additional donations from family members, friends and colleagues. There are prize incentives for raising additional funds.
