For Immediate Release: Do You Need Help Paying Your LIPA Bill? LIPA offers several programs to help Uniondale, NY—January 17, 2006—Sometimes circumstances make it difficult to pay rising energy bills. The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) understands, and have several programs available, to make it easier to get assistance. If you need help making payments, you may be eligible for benefits from one or more of LIPA’s programs. “LIPA’s upmost concern is for the well being of its customers” said LIPA Chairman Richard M. Kessel. “LIPA offers these programs to help customers through there tough times.” The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), for example, is a federally funded financial assistance program designed to help income eligible households pay energy bills. It is not a welfare program or loan. You do not have to pay back any money given to you. LIPA, a non-profit municipal electric utility, owns the retail electric Transmission and Distribution System on Long Island and provides electric service to over 1.1 million customers in Nassau and Suffolk counties and the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens. In terms of customers served, LIPA is the 3rd largest municipal electric utility in the nation and the 6th largest in terms of electricity delivered.
