LIPA Celebrates Earth Day Uniondale, NY-April 18, 2006-Lawns are greening and tulips are blooming. Long Island's spring season has officially begun. The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) will kick off the season at the 36th Annual Heckscher State Park Spring Festival. The festival will be held Saturday, April 22 and 23, 2006 from 11am - 4pm at Heckscher State Park in East Islip, NY. The annual Spring Festival, organized by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, brings together over 40 exhibitors and vendors to celebrate International Earth Day. "Visitors to The Heckscher Spring Festival are encouraged to visit LIPA's tent and find out how they can lower their electric bill, protect Long Island's environment, and maybe even win some great prizes," said Chairman Richard M. Kessel. "The festival is a great family event and annual Long Island tradition." LIPA will provide demonstrations and informational displays, and expert staff will be on hand to answer questions about LIPA's Clean Energy Initiative (CEI) that offers a broad range of environmentally friendly energy efficiency and demand reduction programs. Information will also be available on LIPA's "53 ways to Save" initiative that provides useful tips on how to lower electric bills by using electricity more efficiently. LIPA's CEI is a 10-year $355-million program fostered by Governor George Pataki. The CEI is designed to encourage energy conservation, efficient energy use and the development and use of renewable energy technologies such as wind, solar, geothermal and fuel cells. For more information about LIPA's CEI programs, electric conservation or other upcoming events visit LIPA's Web site at www.lipower.org. LIPA, a non-profit municipal electric system, owns the retail electric Transmission and Distribution System (T&D) on Long Island and provides electric service to over 1.1 million customers in Nassau and Suffolk counties and the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens. In terms of customers served, LIPA is the 3rd largest municipal electric utility in the nation and the 6th largest in terms of electricity delivered. LIPA does not provide natural gas service or own any on-island electric generating assets. ### Contact Information: Press Release 4/18/06 10:27 PM Eastern |
