LONG ISLAND POWER AUTHORITY

LIPA Urges Long Island to Act Now and be Prepared for the Height of the Hurricane Season

Active Hurricane Season is Underway with More Storms Expected

Uniondale, NY-September 8, 2005-The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) said today that it would coordinate a review of the various County, Town, Village and utility emergency response plans to update them in light of the impact of Hurricane Katrina on the Gulf Coast.

The devastation that has crippled New Orleans and parts of Mississippi and Alabama should be instructive to all Long Islanders. If a major hurricane or other natural disaster should strike Long Island, will you and your family be prepared? LIPA is committed to helping Long Island prepare for what is a very busy hurricane season. Towards that end, LIPA
also announced today that it has teamed up for a second year with the Eastern Long Island Coastal Conservation Alliance, Ltd. (ELICCA) to produce a hurricane preparedness brochure titled "2005 Hurricanes Long Island" that underscores the need to be well prepared for the possibility of a major hurricane hitting Long Island.
