FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Long Island Comics Join Force to “Stand Up for the Victims of Hurricane Katrina” Fundraisers Featuring Bob Nelson and Paul Bond to be Held on September 21st and September 22nd at Governor’s in Levittown and McGuire’s in Bohemia Laughter has been called the best medicine. With that in mind, Long Island veteran comics, Bob Nelson and Paul Bond will be joined by several other popular local comedians at “Stand Up for the Victims of Hurricane Katrina,” two fundraisers scheduled for the evenings of Wednesday, September 21 and Thursday September 22 at two of the Island’s top comedy clubs. The proceeds from both benefits will be donated to The Salvation Army to be earmarked for victims of Hurricane Katrina. On Wednesday, September 21 at 8pm, Governor’s Comedy Cabaret (90 Division Avenue, Levittown) will host “Stand up For Victims of Hurricane Katrina.” The headliner for the evening will be celebrated comic, Bob Nelson. Also performing that night are: Peter Pitofsky, Julia Minerva, Joe Currie, and Wyatt the One Man Riot. The emcee will be comic, Billy Bingo, a retired member of the FDNY. On Thursday September 22 at 8pm, McGuire’s Comedy Club (1627 Smithtown Ave, Bohemia) Long Island’s popular comedian, Paul Bond will be the headliner for Suffolk County’s “Stand Up for The Victims of Hurricane Katrina.” That night’s performers also include Chris Roach, Maria Walsh, Sal “The Stockbroker” Governale, and Pat O’Rourke. Billy Bingo will emcee the show. The entire proceeds from ticket sales from both shows will be donated to The Salvation Army for Hurricane Katrina relief. The advance tickets are $20 and can be reserved by calling Governor’s Comedy Cabaret at 516-731-3358 and McGuire’s 631-467-5413. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $25 each on the scheduled night of the shows. “As a NYC firefighter I've seen tragedy first hand,” said Billy Bingo. “The public’s warm and generous response to those who suffered losses on September 11, 2001 made a positive impact. Now, it’s time to help those whose lives were devastated by Hurricane Katrina. All the comics are counting on the generous spirit of our fellow Long Islanders to make these fundraisers a great success.” Long Islander, Paul Bond, is a comedian/writer/musician who is a frequent headliner at top comedy clubs around the country. Recently, he toured with Jim Breuer as his opening act and band member. He has also appeared on Comedy Central’s “Hardcore” and “Metallica” on MTV and has filmed a pilot, “Music Underground,” that is currently under consideration for optioning by several major TV networks. Long Islander, Bob Nelson, is a quintessential veteran of the comedy stage. Many have declared him as the Red Skelton of the new millennium. His credits include several HBO specials, including solo performances on the network that include “Nelson Schmelson” and “One Night Stand.” For years, Governor’s and McGuire’s have helped launch the careers of some of America’s most celebrated comics, including Jerry Seinfeld, Rosie O’Donnell and Kevin James, among others.
