OUR FIGHT FOR INTERNET FREEDOM

SAVE THE INTERNET

Today we're delivering a million petitions and letters to Capitol Hill at a press event with Senators Olympia Snowe (R-Maine), Byron Dorgan (D-North Dakota) and spokespeople from our coalition. We'll be speaking in support of the Senators' "Internet Freedom Preservation Act" -- which needs to pass in the Senate for enforceable Net Neutrality language to become law.

The million-letter milestone is remarkable but our work is far from over. Thousands of Americans have stepped forward to defend Internet freedom, and yet Congress may still cave to corporate lobbyist pressure to re-write laws that hand over control of the Internet to the likes of AT&T, Verizon and Comcast.

A number of challenges are before us. We need your help to fight back. Here's how you can help the coalition mobilize support for Net Neutrality:

1. Contact the Senate: The nation's largest telephone and cable companies are spending tens of millions of dollars to pressure Congress to allow them to seize control of the Internet. A critical vote will occur in the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation on June 22. Please urge your readers and members to contact their Senators in support of enforceable and meaningful Net Neutrality legislation. They can visit SavetheInternet.com to sign the coalition petition or call Congress.

2. Come to our Washington event: Today's Hill event is scheduled for 1:45pm EST (sorry for the short notice). If you're in Washington, please come to hear the Senators speak and show your support:

WHAT: Delivery of 1 million petitions and letters to the Senate
WHERE: "Senate Swamp" (across from the Russell Senate Office Building, Constitution & Delaware)
WHEN: Wednesday, June 14, 1:45 p.m.
Video of the event will also be available at PoliticsTV.com.

3. Turn up the heat: Take advantage of the number of activism tools we have assembled at the Coalition Web site. We have also created a campaign flier (PDF) and encourage you and your readers/members to download, print and distribute it wherever people gather.

As Senators weigh their votes, we need to accelerate the drumbeat of public support for Net Neutrality.

We're constantly looking for opportunities to highlight in the press the innovative mobilization techniques of our coalition partners. Please keep me informed of the actions you take to defend Internet freedom.
