FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WORLD-RENOWNED TENNIS CHAMPION GENE MAYER TO GIVE JUNIOR PLAYERS FREE ON-COURT HITTING EVALUATIONS

AT JULY 27 ‘MEET & GREET DAY’ ON LONG ISLAND

LONG ISLAND, NY, July 18, 2005 - - John and Patrick McEnroe, Gene and Sandy Mayer, Mary Carillo, Vitas Gerulaitis and Peter Fleming are just a few of the well-known professional tennis players who were born and raised in the New York area. So the question arises as the 2005 U.S. Open approaches: Who will be the next young boy or girl from this region to star on the world tennis stage?

Gene Mayer - - once the #4 singles and #1 doubles player in the world - - intends to be the driving force in responding to this question.

Mayer, who will be launching the Gene Mayer International Tennis Academy (GMITA) on Long Island in September 2005, will be hosting a free “Meet & Greet Day” on Wed., July 27, from 5-7 p.m. at Cold Spring Valley Racquet Club (82 East Gate Drive) in Huntington. The event, open to all serious junior tennis players between the ages of nine and 18, along with their families and friends, will provide attendees with full information about the new Academy and a chance to serve up questions to Mayer. The highlight of the Day, however, will be a chance for all interested boys and girls in attendance to receive a personal, on-court stroke evaluation from the long-time Long Islander.

As participants in the Meet & Greet Day will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis, interested parties should call the Academy at 516-859-5482 as soon as possible. Parents whose children are not available to attend the Meet & Greet Day are still welcome to attend on their own.

BACKGROUND ON GENE MAYER:

At the height of his career, Mayer had major wins over such other tennis legends as Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe, Bjorn Borg, Ivan Lendl and Boris Becker. He won the French Doubles title twice, as well as 14 ATP singles & 16 ATP Singles championships in his career. Since retiring from the tour, he has distinguished himself as one of the world’s leading and most sought-after coaches, having developed dozens of top-flight players such as Fabrice Santoro (#17 world singles ranking) and Leander Paes (#1 world doubles ranking) from gifted juniors into highly-successful professionals.

BACKGROUND ON GENE MAYER INTERNATIONAL TENNIS ACADEMY:

The soon-to-launch GMITA will utilize the courts at Shelter Rock Tennis & Country Club in Manhasset during the fall 2005 outdoor season, then move indoors to the Alley Pond Tennis Center in Queens Village, NY, in mid-October. The Academy’s goal is to offer rising and promising junior tennis players who reside in the Greater NY area with the opportunity to participate in a world-class tennis program while working on a daily basis with one of the top coaches in the world - - yet still live at home with their family and attend school on a regular basis.

The phone number for Cold Spring Valley Racquet Club is (516) 692-6480 for directions and other information.
