FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 5th Annual Long Island Yoga Retreat Hosted by Yoga Anand Ashram Every fall Yoga students from the Long Island community come together to immerse themselves in a weekend of Yoga, Community and Peace. Through the various Yogic activities offered each participant has the opportunity to explore the Yogic way of life, strengthen their on going Yoga practice and open up to the heartfelt peace that is our native condition. Each participant will pick from a variety of yoga sessions and workshops to create their own unique retreat experience. Activities include a variety of styles of Hatha Yoga, meditation sessions, Yogic breathing, Yoga philosophy discussions, chanting, Indian head message, mandala drawing meditation and more. Kirtan/Concert with Shantala (Benjy & Heather Wertheimer) & Steve Gorn on Friday, September 30th at 8:00 pm. Participants will be inspired by this soul-stirring experience and will enjoy profound lyrics and exotic instrumentation that is sure to open the heart. Saturday only (including meals) - $150 Kirtan/Concert only - $15 RETREAT FLYER: LONG ISLAND YOGA RETREAT At The Beautiful St. Ignatius Retreat House Friday Sept. 30th - Sunday Oct. 2nd , 2005 RETREAT SETTING With surroundings of pine, linden, oak, maple trees and a majestic Weeping Beech tree, the St. Ignatius Retreat House is the perfect location for a weekend of Yoga. The deep silence of the mansion is complimented by the beauty and wonder of these natural surroundings. The interior spaces you will experience include the spacious sun-lit solarium, the quiet heart-space of the Zen meditation room, the contemplative Faber lounge, not to mention the architectural wonder of the mansion itself with its remarkable lobby, grand staircase and awe-inspiring hallways. THE PROGRAM The novel design of the retreat allows all participants to pick from a variety of activities to create their own unique experience. The weekend will include Hatha Yoga sessions of a variety of styles (Classical Hatha Yoga, Anusara Yoga, Ashtanga Yoga, partner Yoga), meditation sessions ( walking meditation, Mudra & Chakra meditation, sound meditation, and more). Delicious vegetarian and natural foods will be served (special dietary needs can be accommodated). Activities will take place inside the 86-room mansion as well as on the grounds (weather permitting). There are also many activities to explore during free time: nature walks, Zen meditation room, Jacuzzi, stream room, gym, and more. · Classical Hatha Yoga FRIDAY NIGHT KIRTAN / CONCERT We are pleased to offer a special Kirtan/Concert with Shantala (Benjy & Heather Wertheimer) and Steve Gorn at the opening of the retreat, Friday, Sept. 30th at 8:00 pm. As partners in music and life, Heather & Benjy Wertheimer ( http://www.shantalamusic.com/ ) open hearts around the world with their passionate and inspirational music. Shantala creates a sublime soundscape of musical harmony between East and West with soul-stirring vocals, sacred lyrics and exotic instrumentation. Steve Gorn ( http://www.stevegorn.com/ ) has performed Indian classical music and new American music on the bansuri bamboo flute and soprano saxophone in concerts and festivals throughout the world. He has been praised by critics and leading Indian musicians as one to the few westerners recognized to have captured the subtlety and beauty of Indian music. (Admission is free for all weekend retreat participants and $15 for all others). ABOUT THE RETREAT FACILITATORS Lorraine Aguilar is the director / founder of Yoga Flow Studio in Glen Head. She has been a practicing Physical Therapist since 1991 and specializes in yoga therapeutics and orthopedic manual therapy. Lorraine has been a yoga practitioner for 11 years and teaching since 1995. She is an Affiliated Anusara yoga teacher. Karen Doukas has been a yoga practitioner for over 31 years and is a Yoga teacher at Yoga Anand Ashram. Karen has extensive training in Western and Eastern music and plays guitar, piano, sitar, Indian violin and is a vocalist and songwriter. Daniel Guerra, Psy.D. is a yoga instruction and the director of Psychological Stress Management Services, P.C. With a strong background in the areas of stress management, rehabilitation psychology, and Classical Eight-Limbed Yoga, he draws upon the wisdom of both Eastern and Western approaches for mind-body healing. Kathleen Jeremiah, RN, MS, ANP has been a Yoga Practitioner for over 31 years and is a senior teacher at Yoga Anand Ashram. She is a wholistic nurse practitioner focusing on yoga, nutrition and bodywork as a means to optimum health. Roy Mitchell has been a yoga practitioner for over 32 years. He is a senior teacher at Yoga Anand Ashram. Roy is an artist and has taught classes in drawing and painting and holds degrees in psychology and education. He also teaches Special Education at AHRC in Brookville. Yogi Ananda Satyam is the Spiritual Director of Yoga Anand Ashram. He was a student of Gurani Anjali, the founder of Yoga Anand Ashram and has been a yoga practitioner for 31 years, and teaching yoga, pranayama and meditation for over 20 years. He teaches and lectures on world spiritual traditions and Eastern philosophies and holds degrees in Philosophy and Religious Studies.
