Volunteer Attorneys Assisting Sandy Victims at Free Legal Consultation Clinic Monday, November 19

(Long Island, N.Y.) To help residents deal with the many legal issues involved in the aftermath of the devastating effects of Superstorm Sandy, the Nassau County Bar Association is hosting a series of free Superstorm Sandy Legal Consultation Clinics.

Attorneys knowledgeable in many areas of law will be available to meet with residents to provide information and refer them for more assistance if needed. Attorneys will not provide legal representation. Attorneys fluent in foreign languages will also be available to assist residents in their native tongues.

Residents will be able to meet one-on-one with attorneys to receive help in these areas:

  • Homeowner, flood, property damage and automobile insurance claims
  • FEMA assistance and grants
  • Debt deferral
  • Bankruptcy
  • Consumer Protection issues (contractors, etc.)
  • Landlord-Tenant issues
  • Assistance in dealing with lenders to avoid foreclosure
  • Legal assistance for health/disability/personal injury/post-traumatic stress issues
  • Pro bono Alternative Dispute Resolution (mediation and arbitration) for neighbor disputes arising from the storm.

The Nassau County Bar Association has a long tradition of providing information and services to the community. In the wake of unprecedented loss of life, property and health due to Superstorm Sandy, attorneys are volunteering to provide knowledge and information to help victims navigate their own recoveries.
