$15,000 AVPNext Wilson Grand Prix Announced
New York April 9, 2007: The $15,000 AVPNext Wilson Volleyballs Grand Prix program will offer end of season cash prizes to all players in the 2007 beach volleyball season. Players will earn points competing in East Coast beach volleyball tournaments based on their finish. The top players at the end of the season will then split the $15,000 cash prizes supplied by Grand Prix sponsors. Over 2,500 players from 24 states earned points in the 2006 Grand Prix.
Players will earn points at tournaments promoted by the following AVPNext member organizations:
· East End Volleyball in Florida, S. Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Rhode Island
· Newport Volleyball Club in Rhode Island
· Volleyball Virginia in Virginia Beach
· Sunshine Beach Volleyball Association in Florida
Prize money will be awarded to players in various divisions ranging from the top players on the East Coast who compete in the Men’s and Women’s Open divisions down to novice level players in the b division. Divisions and prize money:
· $6,000 Native Eyewear Men’s Open Grand Prix
· $3,000 Caribbean WO Grand Prix
· $1,500 Iron Horse MAA Grand Prix
· $1,500 Vincere Sand Sock Grand Prix
· $1,000 Rider Sandals MA Grand Prix
· $1,000 Spike Volleyball Grand Prix
· $100 Park & Sun MB Grand Prix
· $100 Volley Chick WB Grand Prix
The Grand Prix prize money was supplied by AVPNext, the grass roots organization of the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour, Wilson Sports, manufacturer of the official beach volleyball used by all of the participating tours, and the participating AVPNext member organizations. The goal of the Grand Prix is to encourage players to compete all season and measure their progress against players from throughout the East Coast.
2006 Grand Prix Champions:
· Men’s Open: Tim McNichol, Manhattan, NY won the $1,000 1st place prize
· Women’s Open: Jill Pickus, Long Beach, NY won the $600 1st place prize
· MAA: Peter Kopach, Brooklyn, NY won the $300 1st place prize plus an Iron Horse Mountain Bike.
· WAA: Jenni Luke, Altamonte Springs, FL won the $300 1st place prize plus an Iron Horse Mountain Bike.
· MA: Nikolay Kopach, Brooklyn, NY won the $250 1st place prize
· WA: Elizabeth Lin, Manhattan, NY won the $250 1st place prize
· Henrik Negaard, Tampa, FL won the 1st place prize
· Marissa Nedau, New Jersey, won the $100 1st place prize
