Local Musicians Perform at EEAC Community Mosaic Street Painting Festival
Riverhead, NY—The East End Arts Council’s Local Musician’s Showcase on the Riverhead Showstage is scheduled for Sunday, May 27th, 2007 from 12–5 pm and features a diverse selection of local musicians honing their live performance skills. Following a traditional opening ceremony at noon, composer George Cork Maul performs his unique brand of free improvisation to kick off the11th annual celebration of the arts. At 1 pm, drum master Dan Bailey leads the EEAC African Drummers. Urban poet Ulysses Colon delivers his message at 1:30 pm, followed by the Latin rhythms of Yvette Malavet-Blum at 2 pm. LUMA’s sultry jazz combo performs at 2:30 pm. Give it up for The Freedom Choir from First Baptist Church of Riverhead starting at 3 pm. Folk/alternative rocker Liza Coppola shows us her stuff at 3:30 pm. The Jimi Hendrix Experience blasts off at 4 pm. Rounding out the day is the original rock of the John Brzoza Band and the folk-rock sounds of Jordan Hope at 4:30 pm. Music lovers of all ages and persuasions are welcome at no charge. Chairs and sunscreen are recommended. “The pool of local talent is as rich as it is diverse. I love to see the audience getting their groove on!†exclaims EEAC Development Director Cathy Gerardi.
The11th Annual Community Mosaic and Street Painting Festival will be held on Sunday, May 27, 2007 from noon-5pm, (rain date Monday, May 28) on East Main Street and on the grounds of the East End Arts Council at 133 East Main Street in Riverhead. Activities include: artist paintings and crafts on display, storytelling tent sponsored by the Riverhead Free Library, arts and crafts for kids, a life size checkers tournament; a drum circle for all ages and abilities and arts and crafts for kids.
Funds raised from the festival support scholarship opportunities for students at the EEAC Community School of the Arts. Event sponsors include Bethpage Federal Credit Union, Riverhead Free Library, Astoria Federal Savings, Cross Sound Ferry, North Fork Bank Foundation, Knapp-Swezey Foundation, Riverhead Chamber of Commerce, Motosport Brokerage, Friends of the Riverhead Free Library, the Town of Riverhead and Suffolk County Dept. of Economic Development. Sponsorship of street painting squares range from $75 – $300. Your business name or dedication will be inscribed above your street square. Squares registered in advance are free or $20 day of event.Â
