Riverhead, NY—In preparation for the 11th annual Community Mosaic Street Painting Festival, East End Arts Council master artists will demonstrate advanced street painting techniques on Thursday, May 10th and Saturday, May 12th from 11am-4pm. An interactive drumming circle will be held on Saturday, May 12th starting at 10:30am. All events are free and open to all ages.
Professional street painter and graphic artist Rod Tryon divulges secrets of his highly refined technique at Eastenders Coffee House at 40 East Main Street on Saturday, May 12th from 11am– 4pm. Rod travels the world creating two and three-dimensional works in this unconventional medium, and in conjunction with his demo, a free interactive african drumming circle will be held in Flower Alley (outside Eastenders). Fine artists Lianne Alcon and Bryan Landsberg will collaborate on a street painting at the Riverhead Free Library at 330 Court Street on Saturday, May 12th from 11am-4pm. (Also at the library is the Antiques Roadshow from 2-4pm. Call 631-727-3228 for details.) Partners in life as well as in art, Lianne and Bryan have participated in the Community Mosaic since they moved to Riverhead four years ago. Street painter extraordinaire Sheri Egert will create her masterpiece at the Riverhead Branch of Bethpage Federal Credit Union at the Staples Plaza, 1095 Old Country Road, on Thursday, May 10th from 11am-4pm. Sheri is a fine arts student at SCCC who creates murals for private clients and has graced EEAC sidewalks with her artistic talent since 2004.
The above demonstrations serve as a preview for what’s in store at the 11th Annual Community Mosaic Street Painting Festival on Sunday, May 27, 2007 (rain date Monday, May 28th) from 12-5pm. Be a street painter or watch the street painters perform their magic on East Main Street. Visit the artists’ paintings and crafts on display. Enjoy live music on the Entertainment Show Stage sponsored by Riverhead Business Improvement District. Stop by the Riverhead Free Library storytelling tent, bang a drum at the interactive drumming circle or join the life size checkers tournament. Prizes donated by Splish Splash, the LI Comedy Festival and the LI Ducks will be raffled off throughout the day. All ages are welcome as we greet the summer with a celebration of the arts. There is no admission fee. Sponsorships range from $75-$300 to inscribe your business name or dedication above a street square. Street painters registered in advance are free, or $20 day of event.Â
