Uniondale, NY – May 11, 2007 – The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) is constantly looking for new ways to reach out to its customers. It is in this spirit that LIPA has launched its new podcast Watts New @ LIPA. Posted on its Web site at the beginning of each month, the podcast offers the latest in LIPA news, customer service programs and energy saving tips.

A podcast is similar to a brief radio program. Each podcast consists of a series of individual segments that you can listen to how and when you want, whether on your PC, using an MP3 player, or with a Web browser.

Each podcast includes the latest LIPA news, a feature segment with insights into the numerous programs LIPA has available for its residential and business customers. In addition, customers can submit questions to be included in the Mailbag segment, by visiting LIPA’s Web site at www.lipower.org/podcast.

“I invite everyone to take advantage of this exciting new feature,” said LIPA CEO and President Richard M. Kessel. “This valuable addition to LIPA’s Web site affords Long Islanders an unique opportunity to get the latest LIPA news and energy-saving tips first-hand.”

Through LIPA’s Web site, www.lipower.org/podcast, the podcast can be accessed as individual issues, or can be subscribed to with software such as Apple’s iTunes. Subscribing will allow the latest issue to be automatically downloaded when it is released by opening iTunes. From there it can be listened to on a computer, or any mp3 player. 
LIPA, a non-profit municipal electric utility, owns the retail electric Transmission and Distribution System on Long Island and provides electric service to more than 1.1 million customers in Nassau and Suffolk counties and the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens.  LIPA is the 3rd largest municipal electric utility in the nation in terms of customers served and the 6th largest in terms of electricity delivered.  In 2006, LIPA outperformed all other overhead electric utilities in New York State in all three major reliability categories.  LIPA does not provide natural gas service or own any on-island generating assets.
