THE BIG SHOT-CALLER an HD feature film director Marlene Rhein

NEW YORK, June 20, 2007 – The debut feature film from writer/director Marlene Rhein is currently in production on Manhattan and Long Island.

Ms. Rhein is an accomplished filmmaker having directed over forty music videos (AMY WINEHOUSE, TUPAC SHAKUR).  Her video for British R&B group ANOTHER LEVEL, shot to number one, earning Ms. Rhein success as one of the most prolific music video directors in London.

Her feature length screenplay, THE BIG SHOT CALLER, is a modern coming of age story set in New York City where 20 somethings still struggle to define their lives.  

Inspired by her brother, who was born with Nystagmus, a serious vision disability, in the story, JAMIE is a self-sufficient loner who finds love and loses it all too quickly. He is driven into a deep depression and turns to his sister, LIANNE, for advice.  She tells him that this is all part of the plan, and that sometimes you have to hit rock bottom to find your real self.  ‘It’s not all up to you.  God is in charge.  God is the Big Shot-Caller.’  

She convinces him to turn to his childhood passion for Salsa dancing where he finds strength and confidence and ultimately salvation.

Christine Giorgio is producing the film along with co-producer Erika Yeomans.  The project has been chosen for Panavision’s New Director Program and was furnished with a complete HD camera package featuring the SONY F-900 CINEALTA camera.

Casting Director Donna McKenna has brought a well rounded cast to the project including LANEYA WILES, LESLIE EVA GLASER (HALF NELSON) and BOBBY COSTANZO of (IN THE MIX, TOTAL RECALL, NYPD BLUE.         

The film stars real-life brother and sister MARLENE and DAVID RHEIN.  

LA-based Director of Photography PAOLO CASCIO has been working closely with Ms Rhein to develop the look of the film.  Mr. Cascio has worked on numerous studio films and independent films and is also an accomplished still photographer.
