Tough Break But Still Gets A Top 5 Finish
August 26th, 2007 (Commack, New York – Go Kart Racing) With an overcast sky the racing schedule for the day was in doubt, but the Monte Brothers Racing Team was anxious to get on the track for the two scheduled practice sessions. Nicholas Monte in the 91 Plycon Transportation was feeling good and comfortable. The track was fast and the kart felt good. During the Qualifying session, Nicholas got loose on one of the hair pin turns and was only able to qualify in 6th place for the first heat race.
With a fast kart in the heat race, Nicholas was able to charge to the front and moved into third place. The leader was starting to pull away which the challenge that much more difficult for Nicholas in his 91 PLYCON Transportation race kart. When the White flag waved signaling one lap to go, Nicholas moved up another position to second and was running down the leader. Unfortunately, the laps ran out before Nicholas would catch the leader.
In the Main event, Nicholas would start from the outside of the front row. At the drop of the Green flag, Nicholas would lead the pack into the first turn and would hold that position to lead lap 1. At the end of the straightaway, the second and third place karts were breaking away and catching up to 91 PLYCON Transportation kart. Going into the third turn, Nicholas was bumped from behind and spun, allowing several racers to pass him before he could straighten out and get going again. Not giving up, the 91 PLYCON Transportation kart ran down and passed a few fellow racers. Unfortunately once again the laps would run out on Nicholas and he finished the race in Fifth place.
We are very proud of Nicholas for keeping his cool and remaining focused on doing the best he could and not giving up!

Town of Oyster Bay Democratic Committee Launch Open Forum To Debate Ideas and Political Issues
Alexander E. Sklavos, Chairman of the Town of Oyster Bay Democratic Committee proudly announces the launch of their website http://www.oysterbaydems.com/.
The website has been established as an interactive community forum, complete with candidate information, pictures, video, volunteer information, calendar and message board. This will be a place for the free exchange and debate of ideas and political issues affecting our Town. Real political discourse is our goal - something that has been lacking on the Town Board for too many years.
Our candidates for Town office wanted to establish this forum/message board because there is currently no central forum for the public to engage in the type of exchange we are looking to foster. We want to hear from everyone, not just those who can make it to Town Hall for a board meeting at 10:00 on a Tuesday morning.
Our forum is a Cyber Town Hall meeting that individuals, civics associations and chambers of commerce can attend at their convenience and be heard. We are listening.
Tell us what you think is being done right and what you think needs improvement. What are your ideas to reduce Town spending, give our residents much needed tax relief and improve the quality of life for all of us.
The Forum/message board allows the public to post commentary, opinion and stories about their experiences regarding a wide range of topics. The issues currently on the forum/message board include; building permits, Cerro Wire site, development of brown fields, Liberty site, moratorium on development, next generation housing, Old Plainview, Public Safety patrol, senior housing, smart growth initiatives, special tax districts, Town Board meetings, zoning board of appeals. Additionally, there are forums set up for issues regarding each individual village.
This is a forum unlike anything else in Town. The official Town, taxpayer funded, website along with the full color glossy, taxpayer funded, “informational” mailers sent to everyone in Town are used by the incumbent officials as their personal campaign tools. They do not have a message board for feedback from the people they are elected to represent. We saw that as a huge problem and have offered this as the solution. We invite all to come participate in the discussion.

Requests Donations To Her Favorite Charity In Lieu of Birthday Gifts
SEAFORD, NY, Aug. 15, 2007 - - Figure skating protégé Jacklyn Kate Corsitto will celebrate her 11th birthday on Monday, August 27, with 30-40 of her closest friends and relatives at a pool party at her Charles Court home in Seaford, NY.
There’s nothing out of the ordinary about that, but the soon-to-be sixth grader at Seaford Middle School certainly is unusual in many other ways. On the ice, she performs a myriad of remarkable tricks, such as juggling and walking on her hands . . . and away from the rink she is equally as extraordinary and special.
In her nearly five dozen birthday party invitations to friends and family, Jackie requested that in lieu of birthday presents, that her guests make donations to her favorite not-for-profit organization - - The Heritage Foundation of 9/11, which endeavors to not only remind youngsters about the attacks of 9-11-01, but to share and educate future generations of Americans about the numerous heroes who came to the rescue of our citizens that day.
“The Heritage Foundation of 9/11 is in financial distress,” said Jackie, “which may not allow it to put on its signature event this year, the Stars, Stripes & Skates IceTravaganza, where I have formed friendships and bonds with dozens of other kid skaters. It would be a tragedy if the event couldn’t be held this year.”
Stars, Stripes & Skates has been held every year since 9/11, three times in Nassau Coliseum, once in Madison Square Garden and one time at Cantiague Park on Long Island.
Noted Tara Modlin, originally of Great Neck, NY, who is the founder and president of The Heritage Foundation of 9/11 and producer of Stars, Stripes & Skates: “The children get a sense of satisfaction by being a part of something so big and by giving back to the community - - and this gesture by Jacklyn is her personal way of making a difference. The youngsters use their athletic skills for a good cause, and also get to meet and befriend stars of all kinds, including their skating idols like Nancy Kerrigan and Oksana Baiul, in addition to community officials like former and active firefighters and police officers.
Jacklyn’s parents Barbara and Jack and her sister Carly, age five, are firmly behind her in this endeavor. “We are so proud her talents and especially Jacklyn’s altruistic attitude. It should be the best birthday party ever!”

Long Island Power Authority Releases Pace Study on Offshore Wind Project Costs
Uniondale, NY - August 23, 2007 - The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) today released a study prepared by Pace Global Energy Services evaluating the economics of its proposed 140 megawatt (MW) Offshore Wind Park.
Pace estimates that the project’s cost could reach $811 million, which includes the construction and financing costs, and the cost for the transmission cable needed to bring the power produced by the wind turbines to a land-based LIPA substation.
When compared with the cost of Long Island-based combined cycle natural gas-fired generating plant, the Pace study concludes that the “levelized green premium” for wind-generated power, when spread out over a 20-year period, would come to about $66 million per year or about $2.50 per month for the typical residential consumer who uses 775 kilowatt hours per month.
The “green premium” for wind power is calculated by taking the difference between the cost of a megawatt hour (MWh) of electricity produced in a combined cycle natural gas power plant on Long Island, which is about $137 per MWh, and an MWh of power produced by the Offshore Wind Project, which could be $291. The “green premium” of $153 per MWh when annualized and spread over a 20-year power purchase agreement projects the “levelized green premium” to be about $66 million per year in 2010 dollars.
The Pace study, found that the costs for the proposed offshore wind project are in line with market expectations for North American offshore projects given the early stage development of such a market and the overall lack of a well-defined national energy policy to support these kinds of projects. Costs for developing offshore wind projects in Europe are considerably lower due to the experience in building such projects there and the government incentives offered for such alternative energy resources.
LIPA requested the study after FPL Energy had given the Authority an updated cost estimate of $697 million, as of the end of 2006, to construct the 40 wind turbines that would generate about 140 megawatts of renewable wind energy for Long Island. FPLE’s cost estimate did not include the financing and transmission cable costs.
“Obviously, there is a premium for building an offshore wind project when compared to conventional energy projects,” said LIPA CEO/President Richard M. Kessel. “Long Island must decide where it wants to go with its energy future. Should we continue on as we have in the past by adding more and more fossil fuel power plants or do we give a large-scale renewable energy project a chance to help break the grip of oil and natural gas as the primary fuels used to keep our lights on?”
LIPA’s Board of Trustees will discuss the proposed Offshore Wind Project and possible alternatives at its September 25 meeting.
The Pace study can be downloaded from LIPA’s Web site: www.lipower.org.
LIPA, a non-profit municipal electric utility, owns the retail electric Transmission and Distribution System on Long Island and provides electric service to more than 1.1 million customers in Nassau and Suffolk counties and the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens. LIPA is the 3rd largest municipal electric utility in the nation in terms of customers served and the 6th largest in terms of electricity delivered. In 2006, LIPA outperformed all other overhead electric utilities in New York State in all three major reliability categories. LIPA does not provide natural gas service or own any on-island generation assets. More
