EleMental Learning Announces the Opening of Its Long Island Practice
Kings Park, NY, September 27, 2007 – EleMental Learning, an in-home tutoring company headquartered in Naperville, IL, announces the opening of its Long Island practice serving both Suffolk and Nassau Counties.
EleMental Learning was founded by former classroom teacher Lori Skurka based on the belief that the mass marketed curriculum offered by other major tutoring companies cannot possibly address the need and personality of each diverse student.
“Having spoken with many different parents about the unique learning needs of their children, we came to the conclusion that the ‘cookie cutter’ approach applied by the other national tutoring companies falls short of addressing each student’s specific needs and style. We formed EleMental Learning to match students with high quality tutors who are assigned based on their fit with the student’s academic needs and learning patterns,” said Ms. Skurka.
The Company’s activities on Long Island will be led by regional Director, Karen Chanda. “EleMental Learning’s arrival here provides a fresh alternative to tutoring on Long Island,” said Ms. Chanda. “The Company refuses to define itself using the same mass marketed curriculum model that other major tutoring companies follow. Only EleMental Learning combines the personal touch of a private in-home tutor with a broad array of carefully screened tutors from which to choose.”
EleMental Learning will provide in-home tutoring services across the entirety of Long Island. Tutoring is available at all grade levels in the core subjects of math, reading, language arts, science, social studies, and history. All core subject tutors are actual certified teachers. The Company also provides foreign language tutoring, standardized test preparation (ACT and SAT), study skills remediation, computer literacy training, and other personal coaching services.

With their BEF – FCA Montauk (N.Y.) Slam Redbone @ Large tournament awards Tim Borski, Tavernier, Fla., holding his new Rolex watch is flanked by Baseball Hall of Famer Wade Boggs (right) Tampa, Fla., Redbone series tournament director Capt. Gary Ellis, (far left) Islamorada, Fla., and guide Capt. Paul Dixon, East Hampton, N.Y.. Borski was named the grand champion of the Boomer Esiason Foundation (BEF) partnered Redbone tournament event and Boggs was the celebrity grand champion. The wins qualified both Borski and Boggs for invitations to the IGFA Inshore World Championship in 2008. Monies raised from the tournament will go to BEF scholarships for students with cystic fibrosis.

Baseball Hall of Famer Wade Boggs (left) was the winning angler in the celebrity division of the Boomer Esiason Foundation (BEF) – FCA Montauk (N.Y.) Slam, a Redbone @ Large series event. With him are NFL and collegiate football hall of fame great Dave Rimington (center) who is also the President of the Boomer Esiason Foundation and BEF spokesman Pete Johnson. The sixth annual tournament is one of many celebrity fishing events put on by the Redbone and BEF for cystic fibrosis research and scholarships.
|
MONTAUK, Long Island, NY — A marine artist from the Florida Keys won not only the grand champion angler title in the Boomer Esiason Foundation (BEF) – F.C.A. Montauk Slam along with a Rolex watch and Roger Fowler sculpted trophy, but also saw much of his own donated giclee artwork presented to other division winners.
Tim Borski, Tavernier, Fla. collected 1900 points in the Redbone @ Large tournament series event fishing mostly on fly catching four albies (false albacore), seven bluefish and two striped bass. His guide Capt. Paul Dixon, East Hampton, N.Y. won a Tim Borski Montauk Slam giclee.
The runner-up angler was Art Bokor, who also scored as the top rod angler for both days, was named the spin/plug division champion and recorded the most bluefish and albie releases. He was guided by Capt. Chris Jensen, Hope, N.J.
Bokor with Joe Keris, both of Robinsville, N.J., were named runner-up team finishing just 150 points behind the grand champion anglers David Collier, New York City, N.Y. with his father Cal Collier Sr. of Lake Forest, Illinois. The Collier’s totaled 2800 points and were guided by Capt. Brendan McCarthy, New York City, N.Y. David Collier also won honors as the fly division champion and for most striper releases
Baseball hall of famer, Wade Boggs, Tampa, Fla., a former member of the New York Yankees, repeated with a win as celebrity grand champion, guided by Capt. Frank Crescitelli, Staten Island, N.Y.
As grand champions, both Borski and Boggs qualified to compete in the International Game Fish Association (IGFA) Inshore World Championship, next year in the Florida Keys.
Other winners included New York City’s Mike Hill, and John Mannix, for the largest striper (40”), and biggest blue (34 “) respectively, and Jim Novinger, Harrisburg, Pa., for the largest albie (30”). A newcomer to fishing, Hill also scored Nor’ East Grand Slams (albie, striper and blue) both days.
A total of 289 fish were caught and released including 108 bluefish, 21 stripers and 160 albies.
In partnership with the Redbone and the Fishermen’s Conservation Association (FCA) monies from the sixth annual tournament held Sept. 19 – 21 at the Montauk Yacht Club, will be presented by the Redbone to the New York City, N.Y. based Boomer Esiason Foundation for its scholarship program for students with cystic fibrosis.
Over $41,000 alone was raised in the live auction held at the tournament which attracted 66 anglers and guides. The BEF and the Redbone have long been involved with raising millions of dollars for CF research.
NFL and collegiate football great Dave Rimington, who is also president of BEF said, “For two decades the Redbone fishing events, created by Capt. Gary and Susan Ellis, have played a major role in creating awareness for finding a cure for CF. Though there is still no cure, research and therapeutic developments have increased the lifespan of CF patients and the need for a scholarship program for these students has emerged. We’re delighted to be involved with the Redbone in these and other fishing tournaments.”
In addition to Montauk, BEF and the Redbone will be partnering with two other celebrity tournaments which include the Deep Water Cay Bonefish Classic at Grand Bahama Island in the Bahamas, Nov. 16 – 19, and the Over the Hill Sailfish Tournament at Islamorada, Fla., January 21 – 22, 2008.
BEF also has its own fishing competition the Costa Rica Classic Billfish Tournament, with the actual two fishing days on March 28 – 29, 2008. The celebrity tournament is limited to 100 registrants of two to six person teams fishing for sailfish and marlin from the Los Suenos Resort. Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) Supports Long Island Sound Research
Northport, NY-September 25, 2007-The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) today presented the Town of Huntington with a grant for research of the Long Island Sound. The grant is being provided in conjunction with replacement of the electric transmission cable system that links Northport in the Town of Huntington with Norwalk in southwestern Connecticut.
The nearly $100 million Northport-to-Norwalk cable project is a joint venture between LIPA and Connecticut Light & Power. It will replace seven old, fluid insulated lines with three state-of-the-art solid core cables that can transmit 300 megawatts (MW) of electricity between Long Island and Connecticut. The new cables will help strengthen the reliability of the electric grid on both sides of the Sound.
While replacing the Northport to Norwalk cables had been under discussion for several years, the replacement process became part of the agreement negotiated between New York and Connecticut that allowed the 330MW Cross-Sound cable between Shoreham and New Haven to begin full commercial operation in June, 2004. For its part, the Town of Huntington received the $50,000 grant from LIPA for Long Island Sound research purposes.
“Input from the Town of Huntington has been essential throughout the development of this important project, which will improve electric system reliability and replace old leaky power lines with state-of-the-art solid cables to help clean up the Long Island Sound,” said LIPA CEO Richard Kessel. “I am pleased to support the Town of Huntington’s efforts to research other ways that the Sound can be protected.”
According to Huntington Town Supervisor Frank Petrone, the funds will be used to continue the Town’s efforts in complying with the Environmental Protection Agency’s 2002 directive requiring operators of small municipal separate storm sewer systems to develop practices to control polluted storm water runoff. This will involve sampling major outfall pipes to determine which are the most significant contributors of coliform.
“Having the funds available for research purposes presents us with a unique opportunity,” said Supervisor Petrone. “Since high coliform counts can result in closures of public beaches and restrictions on shell fishing, it can have very negative social and economic impacts on an area like Huntington. This study will complement our ongoing efforts to improve water quality in Huntington Harbor while providing valuable information that will assist us in the decision-making process for years to come.”
The Northport-to-Norwalk cable system began commercial operations in 1969. In recent years, it has had a high outage rate and been punctured by boat anchors that caused leaks of the non-toxic dielectric fluid that
helps to cool the cable.
Work on the project began this month when the cables were taken out of service. The removal of the old cables is scheduled to begin in October. Installation and testing of the new cables is expected to be completed
by the end of next year.

PORTION OF PROCEEDS FROM SALES TO GO TO ISLAND HARVEST CHARITY
HUNTINGTON, NY, Sept. 25, 2007 - - Huntington, NY-based 4th & Goal Films, the only company in the U.S. that produces a DVD in advance of the NFL College Players Draft each spring, is offering title sponsorship to the product, with a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the DVDs going to Island Harvest, the Nassau County-headquartered charity the helps feed both adults and children in need across Long Island.
Entitled, “2008 PRO FOOTBALL DRAFT SCOUTING DVD: Top 50 Values & Top 10 Hidden Gems,” the two-hour DVD features slow-motion action, special graphics and behind-the-scenes coaches’ films to give fans an inside look at the evaluation process in a unique way. Among the highlights of the DVD is extensive video analysis (including the strengths and weaknesses of all players), insights from interviews with college coaches, ratings by position and overall potential and, of course, statistics and forecasts.
“We feel that this DVD,” stated Denis Krusos, founder and president of 4th & Goal Films, “provides a sponsor - - anyone from an auto company, airplane leaser or home real estate franchise agency to a sports apparel company, NFL sponsor or one of their competitors or even a soft drink or energy beverage marketer - - with a unique opportunity to be a part of an industry that involves millions upon millions of Americans every year.”
Krusos points out that in 2007, more than a half-dozen different draft preview magazines hit the stands, selling in excess of a half-million copies at an average price of about $8.00 each. A separate draft book, selling at $27.00, ended up in another 10,000 hands. Add in the millions of draftniks who surf the web for similar information, and you have pro football’s second largest event, just after the Super Bowl.
“We are looking for a three-year deal,” noted Krusos, who expects to sell at least 50,000 copies of the DVD, “that will provide the primary sponsor with the title name on the product, one or more in-show commercials, promotional and publicity opportunities, participation in a nationwide advertising campaign paid for by 4th & Goal Films, a national public relations campaign by one of the U.S.’s leading sports and entertainment PR firms and much more.”
To discuss further details about the project, or to begin sponsorship discussions, contact Ira H. Silverman of Silverman Media&Marketing Group via phone at (516)495-5280 or through e-mail at smmgsports@aol.com.

Marijuana Arrests Set New Record for 4th Year in a Row, Exceed All Violent Crimes Combined
WASHINGTON, D.C. — For the fourth year in a row, U.S. marijuana arrests set an all-time record in 2006, according to the just-released FBI Uniform Crime Reports. Marijuana arrests totaled 829,627, an increase from 786,545 in 2005. Similar to previous years, 738,916 or 89 percent were for possession, not sale or manufacture, and marijuana possession arrests again exceeded arrests for all violent crimes combined.
“The steady escalation of marijuana arrests is happening in direct defiance of public opinion,” said Rob Kampia, executive director of the Marijuana Policy Project in Washington, D.C. “Voters in communities all over the country, from Denver to Seattle to Eureka Springs, Arkansas, and Missoula County, Montana, have passed measures saying they don’t want marijuana arrests to be a priority, yet marijuana arrests have set an all-time record for four years running. It appears that police are taking their cue from White House Drug Czar John Walters, who is obsessed with marijuana, rather than the public who pays their salaries.
“The bottom line is that we are wasting billions of dollars each year on a failed policy,” Kampia continued. “Despite record arrests, marijuana use remains higher than it was 15 years ago, when arrests were less than half the present level, and marijuana is the number one cash crop in the U.S. Marijuana is scientifically proven to be far safer than alcohol, and it’s time to start regulating marijuana the same way we regulate wine, beer and liquor.”
With more than 23,000 members and 100,000 e-mail subscribers nationwide, the Marijuana Policy Project is the largest marijuana policy reform organization in the United States. MPP believes that the best way to minimize the harm associated with marijuana is to regulate marijuana in a manner similar to alcohol. For more information, please visit www.MarijuanaPolicy.org.

Dr. Keri Chiappino & Dr. Matthew Lewis to Present at Upcoming Autism Conference to Highlight Benefits of Chiropractic Care and Nutrition For Children Diagnosed with Autism
SMITHTOWN and COMMACK, NY (September 19, 2007)– Dr. Keri Chiappino of New Life Chiropractic and Dr. Matthew Lewis of Creating Wellness announced today that they will be presenting jointly at the fourth annual Long Island Autism Conference (LIAC) to be held October 20 and 21 at the Hyatt Regency, Hauppauge, New York. The doctors will be among over thirty-four local and nationally renowned speakers presenting at what is purported to be one of the largest comprehensive Autism conferences in the northeast.
“Maximizing Brain Function with Fuel and Activation…Assisting the ASD Child with Individualized Nutrition and Neurological Rehabilitation” is title of the session to be conducted by Dr. Chiappino and Dr. Lewis. Both doctors will discuss natural methods of treatment that are available for children with neurological disabilities such as Autism.
“This conference is a great opportunity to reach out to parents of children with Autism and present to them the benefits of chiropractic neurology,” says Dr. Chiappino. “Parents need to know that medication is not the only choice for treating children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs). In fact, oftentimes medicating the child can produce serious side effects. Chiropractic neurology is an effective natural alternative that has been very successful in helping to improve the part of the brain that is not functioning properly. I look forward to helping educate parents on how chiropractic neurology can specifically help Autistic children improve their overall well being, including language, social behavior, balance and coordination.”
Addressing the nutritional aspect of improving brain function, Dr. Lewis commented, “Children at all developmental levels benefit from sound nutrition. This conference provides a forum for parents, educators and practitioners to better understand strategies for regaining our children’s health. The science today is sound — Autism is rising at alarming levels, with at least one in every 150 children affected. Even if you don’t have an Autistic child, you probably know someone who does. We need to learn nutritional strategies to treat and potentially prevent Autism. The quality of a child’s brain fuel has an impact on optimizing brain function. Children today are fed a diet of mainly junk food, even if it’s packaged as health food. The problem is more serious than one would imagine. I believe this event is a call to action, a step in the right direction.”
About Dr. Keri Chiappino and New Life Chiropractic
Dr. Keri Chiappino offers a unique, expanded approach to alternative health care and specializes in neurological disorders in children, particularly those with Autism Spectrum Disorders, ADD/ADHD, Asperger’s Syndrome and other learning disabilities. Utilizing non-invasive therapies that comprise her unique “Maximum Achievement Program,” Dr. Chiappino has been successful in improving brain functionality in her patients with ASDs, enabling them to perform at full potential.
Dr. Chiappino has distinguished herself as one of 600 doctors worldwide achieving Diplomatic status on the American Chiropractic Neurological Board (ACNB), with over 1000 hours in chiropractic neurological coursework. She is one of only a half dozen active and certified chiropractic neurologists practicing in the Long Island area. Her private family practice, New Life Chiropractic, is dedicated to chronic conditions that severely disable people, including patients with Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, vertigo, migraines, asthma, depression, anxiety disorders as well as learning disabilities and ASDs. Dr. Chiappino can be reached at her Smithtown, Long Island office at 631 265 1223 or at her Manhattan office at 212 721 1188; www.newlifechiropractic.com.
About Dr. Matthew Lewis and Creating Wellness
Dr. Matthew Lewis is the Clinical Director for The Creating Wellness Center of Commack, New York’s leading center for Enzyme Replacement Nutrition. Combining a unique approach to physical examination and nutritional testing, the Wellness Center’s individualized Enzyme Nutrition protocols have benefited many children experiencing spectrum disorders such as Autism, ADHD, and ADD. These protocols address the wide range of digestive challenges faced by children today including digestion of nutrients, constipation, loose stools, abdominal pain, headaches, and poor sleep.
Dr. Matthew Lewis is a leader in his community, continuously lecturing to educate parents on the important environmental stressors that lend themselves to the alarming rise in Autism and ASDs. His goal is to help those suffering now and serve as a vehicle for preventing this epidemic from spiraling out of control. Dr. Lewis can be reached at the Commack office, 631 462 0801; www.lewiswellness.com.

ABOUT THE SUFFOLK COUNTY VANDERBILT MUSEUM
The Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum - a unique combination of mansion, marine and natural history museum, planetarium and park - is dedicated to the education and enjoyment of the people of Long Island and beyond. This mission shall be achieved through the thoughtful preservation, interpretation and enhancement of the Eagle’s Nest estate as an informal educational facility. Exhibition and program themes focus upon Long Island’s Gold Coast Era and upon William K. Vanderbilt II’s desire that his marine, natural history, and ethnographic collections promote appreciation and understanding of the marvelous diversity of life, other cultures, and scientific knowledge.
The Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum is located in Centerport, New York on William K. Vanderbilt II’s spectacular 43-acre, “Gold Coast” estate. Acquired in 1947, the museum opened in 1950. Vanderbilt’s will stipulated that the estate was to be dedicated to the “education and enjoyment of the public” and “enhanced” as a museum. A planetarium was built by the county in 1970. The facility is the legacy of a man with the resources to conduct collecting expeditions worldwide. The great-grandson of railroad tycoon Cornelius Vanderbilt, William K. collected natural history specimens, ethnographic artifacts, fine and decorative arts. Today’s museum is accredited by the American Association of Museums and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
As a public institution, the museum offers visitors the opportunity to pursue Vanderbilt’s passion - to discover personal interests for the pure pleasure of learning. Today, the museum sponsors a wide variety of public programs that promote an appreciation for the marvelous diversity of life on our planet.

In addition to the Clean Earth Crew, Canon U.S.A. supports a wide range of environmental education and conservation initiatives, including the Canon Envirothon, one of North America’s largest high school environmental education competitions; the PBS Nature series; and scientific research and educational programs at Yellowstone National Park.
