Long Island Press Releases & News

Dr. Keri Chiappino & Dr. Matthew Lewis to Present at Upcoming Autism Conference to Highlight Benefits of Chiropractic Care and Nutrition For Children Diagnosed with Autism

clip_image002.jpgSMITHTOWN and COMMACK, NY (September 19, 2007)–  Dr. Keri Chiappino of New Life Chiropractic and Dr. Matthew Lewis of Creating Wellness announced today that they will be presenting jointly at the fourth annual Long Island Autism Conference (LIAC) to be held October 20 and 21 at the Hyatt Regency, Hauppauge, New York.  The doctors will be among over thirty-four local and nationally renowned speakers presenting at what is purported to be one of the largest comprehensive Autism conferences in the northeast.

“Maximizing Brain Function with Fuel and Activation…Assisting the ASD Child with Individualized Nutrition and Neurological Rehabilitation” is title of the session to be conducted by Dr. Chiappino and Dr. Lewis.   Both doctors will discuss natural methods of treatment that are available for children with neurological disabilities such as Autism.

“This conference is a great opportunity to reach out to parents of children with Autism and present to them the benefits of chiropractic neurology,” says Dr. Chiappino. “Parents need to know that medication is not the only choice for treating children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs).  In fact, oftentimes medicating the child can produce serious side effects.  Chiropractic neurology is an effective natural alternative that has been very successful in helping to improve the part of the brain that is not functioning properly.   I look forward to helping educate parents on how chiropractic neurology can specifically help Autistic children improve their overall well being, including language, social behavior, balance and coordination.”

Addressing the nutritional aspect of improving brain function, Dr. Lewis commented, “Children at all developmental levels benefit from sound nutrition.  This conference provides a forum for parents, educators and practitioners to better understand strategies for regaining our children’s health.  The science today is sound — Autism is rising at alarming levels, with at least one in every 150 children affected.  Even if you don’t have an Autistic child, you probably know someone who does.  We need to learn nutritional strategies to treat and potentially prevent Autism. The quality of a child’s brain fuel has an impact on optimizing brain function.  Children today are fed a diet of mainly junk food, even if it’s packaged as health food.  The problem is more serious than one would imagine.  I believe this event is a call to action, a step in the right direction.”
