The East End Arts Council Community School of the Arts Brings Cultural Hand
Riverhead, NY (November 21, 2007)—The East End Arts Council is thrilled to announce that it will bring the Talking Drum, a cultural hand-drumming program, to the Montauk Academy of the Arts, a fledgling non-profit organization dedicated to bringing the arts to the children of the Montauk area. The program will be held at the Academy’s art center located at 89 Euclid Ave in Montauk on Saturday, December 8, 15 & 29 from 2 – 3:30 PM. Teens and preteens will be instructed by drummer Jerome Liggon in the rhythms of traditional African and Afro-Cuban drumming. Each session will be filmed by the academy and aired on LTV.
“The Talking Drum began in October of 2006. The East End Arts Council received a grant in January of 2007 to bring the program to the communities of the East End. Since January the council has brought the program to various groups including Southampton Youth Services, Family Service League of Riverhead, and the First Baptist Church of Riverhead, and held classes at the EEAC Community School of the Arts. Children between the ages of 9 and 18 are eligible to attend the program on an unrestricted scholarship.
