Sewanhaka Power Squadron Spring 2008 Boating Classes
 
Sewanhaka Power Squadron will be giving the following Basic Boating Courses this spring.
These courses will prepare the novice boater to enjoy safe boating in protected waters and
allow the participant to qualify for the New York State Certificate to operate Personal Water Craft.
 These courses are offered by Sewanhaka Power Squadron of the United States Power Squadrons. 
Sewanhaka Power Squadron has been teaching safe boating since 1953. Our instructors are
experienced boaters familiar with local waters and are USPS Certified.
 
The classes at Sewanhaka High School, 500 Tulip Ave, Floral Park will start on Thursday, February 28th.
Classes at Oceanside High School, Skillman Ave, Oceanside will start on Monday, March 10th.
Classes at Herricks Community Center, Shelter Rock Road, Herricks will start on Monday, March 17th.
Classes at Garden City High School, Merillon Ave, Garden City will start on Wednesday, March 19th.
All class sessions are held from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM weekly.
These are full eight week courses that include boating terminology, safety and fundamentals of charting.
 
A special concentrated Boating Course will be taught at Freeport Public Library March 2nd and 9th
in two four hour sessions 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The exam will be given on March 16th at 1:00 PM
 
The US Power Squadron “Boat Smart” Course will be taught at New Hyde Park High School
starting on Thursday, Feb. 28th, 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM. This course does not include fundamentals of charting.
 
The classes are free however there is a  $ 55.00 charge for the class materials including the student manual
and navigation tools. The charge for “Boat Smart” is $ 40.00 for the manual only.
