Northport Orchestra Performs Free Concert April 4
The Northport Community Orchestra, under the direction of Richard Hyman, will present a free concert on Friday, April 4, 2008 at 8:00 P.M., featuring violinist Matthew Aprea, who will perform the first movement of the Violin Concerto in E Minor, Op. 64, by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy. The Orchestra will also perform works by Schubert, Telemann, and Vaughan Williams.
Mr. Aprea, a senior at Northport High School, has been playing the violin for eight years and currently studies with Anat Malkin Almani in the Manhattan School of Music Pre-College Program. He was a featured soloist at the 2007 Les Nuits de Jazz Festival in Nantes, France, and has also performed in Carnegie Hall with the New York Youth Symphony and in a piano trio through the New York Youth Chamber Music Program.
The concert will take place at the East Northport Middle School, 1075 Fifth Avenue, East Northport (east of Larkfield Road). Donations accepted; all proceeds will benefit the Northport Community Orchestra.Â
