National Association of Mothers Centers Executive Director to be Honored
National Association of Mothers Centers Executive Director, Linda Lisi Juergens, to be honored at Nassau NOW’s Women’s Equality Awards Ceremony
(Jericho, N.Y.) NOW is recognizing the contribution that Linda Lisi Juergens has made in the movement toward women’s equality movement for over thirty years. Linda has been dedicated to advocating for mothers and caregivers in society and in the workplace along with women from around the world. For this she is being honored by the Long Island National Organization of Women (NOW) on April 10, 2008 at Verdi’s in Westbury, NY.
As the Executive Director of the National Association of Mothers’ Centers, Linda creates an atmosphere that emulates the core principles of positive and respectful communication that inform discussions that empower women in the NAMC’s network of programs. Those programs provide support, a safe welcoming environment, an opportunity to listen and be listened to, and a place to share what mothers know and learn from others. The NAMC’s role is to look at the trends, assess the challenges and reach out to more mothers, fathers and caregivers. The NAMC has also taken on the role of a broker in bringing corporations and researchers to the table to discuss work/life issues and solutions that work for both the employees and employers. And they’ve recently held a national roundtable discussion with other national mothers’ organizations to promote collaborations on common concerns.
Besides support and informal research into the circumstances and experiences of mothers, Mothers’ Centers have always encouraged women to advocate for themselves and their families. Since 2003, the NAMC has nurtured the development of a dedicated advocacy initiative called MOTHERS, which focuses on the economic impact of being a caregiver.
Linda is being honored with The Women’s Equality Award for her outstanding work to make a changing and sustaining difference for women on Long Island.
The NAMC is the leading organization that recognizes the challenges, realities and importance of mothering and other caregiving work, offering educational and support programs in local centers, in libraries and in the workplace, offering an annual Work/Life Conference as well as doing advocacy in the fields of postpartum depression, early care and education, work/life balance and the economic impact of being a care giver. http://www.motherscenter.org/
