Ms. Kate L. Foresten opening a new exhibition titled “MY MOTHER MYSELF”
Ms. Kate L. Foresten will be opening a new exhibition titled “MY MOTHER MYSELF” at the Amelie A. Wallace Gallery in SUNY College at Old Westbury’s Campus center on May 5th,2008. Gallery hours are Monday – Friday from 1-4 pm, and the opening reception is on Mon May 5th from 4-7.
ÂÂ
Through photography Forsten reveals the complexity of self image, and the aging process while using the tool of a mother / daughter relationship. The artist does this through the reflection of mirrors capturing unusual angles and views which reveals arms, sides, pieces of faces, and backs. The mirrors tell two stories, the picture in the mirror and the scene behind it. This gives the viewer a different perspective of the model being photographed. The mirrors warp the subjects together as one entity revealing unity, a spiritual connection, the process of aging , and woman in a realistic/ actual domestic environment.
ÂÂ
As an artist, Ms.Forsten creates a photogenic environment veered towards the realist; who see women for what they are and not for what they are expected to be. In her photographs the complex layers are shed away breaking away the labels of harsh modern society.ÂÂ
