East End Arts Council Announces Opening of Images of Long Island
Â
Riverhead, NY (April 16, 2008)—The East End Arts Council and the Town of Riverhead announce the opening of artist Martha Elliott Killian’s Images of Long Island at Riverhead Town Hall. The show will be on display at Riverhead Town Hall beginning April 28, 2008.
Martha has been vacationing on both forks of Long Island for many years. The beauty of the area inspired her to paint these scenes. Watercolor has been the artist’s preferred medium since 1990. She attempts to express a time, a place, a mood, or a season when painting a scene. To enable the viewer to feel a sense of being there, close attention is paid to accurate color and value.
Some of the paintings have inspired the artist to write poetry, and three poems are included in this exhibition. The poems help explain what the artist is feeling when choosing to paint these scenes. Images of Long Island can be viewed Monday through Friday from 9 am - 4:30 pm.
The show runs through July 29,2008 and is a collaborative effort on the part of the East End Arts Council and the Township of Riverhead to support local artists and introduce their work to the community.
