Music Rings Out At 12th Annual East End Arts Council’s Community Mosaic Street Painting Festival

Riverhead, NY — The East End Arts Council’s Local Performer’s Showcase takes place on the Riverhead Showstage on Sunday, May 25th, 2008 from 12–5 pm. Following a traditional opening ceremony, SCCC Spoken Word National Competitor Matt Sparacino emcees a daylong celebration of free music featuring: Miles to Dayton; Dan Bailey and the Music with renowned Ghanian drummer Okoe Ardefiyo; duo Glenn Jochum and Rick Hall; The Golden Dawn with Claude Pragiola; Papa Stitch and the Church Boys; Dave Mac; Nota Bene String Choir with Jim Lewin; and the EEAC School of the Arts Adult Choir directed by Ellis Pelham.
“The pool of local talent is as rich as it is diverse.  I love to see the audience getting their groove on!” says EEAC Development Director Cathy Gerardi.

The 12th Annual Community Mosaic and Street Painting Festival will be held on Sunday, May 25, 2008 from 12-5 pm, (raindate, Monday, May 26) on East Main Street in Riverhead.  This year’s theme, the Creative Process, will be evident not only in the amazing art taking shape on the pavement, but also through a slew of other activities: artists’ paintings and crafts on display, storytelling tent (sponsored by the Riverhead Free Library), arts and crafts for kids, a life size checkers tournament; a drum circle for all ages and abilities, and an improvisational, interactive theatre troupe.  Prizes donated by Splish Splash and Quackerjack Foundation to be raffled throughout the day.  Professional sound support provided by Vontronics, Inc.

Funds raised from the Festival support scholarship opportunities for students at the EEAC School of the Arts.  Event sponsors include Bethpage Federal Credit Union, Riverhead Business Improvement District, Astoria Federal Savings, Knapp Swezey Foundation, Suffolk County National Bank, Riverhead Chamber of Commerce, Riverhead Rotary, Citigroup Smith Barney, Friends of the Riverhead Free Library, the Town of Riverhead and Suffolk County Dept. of Economic Development, and Talmage Farm Agway.  Sponsorship of street painting squares range from $75 - $300.  Sponsoring business name or dedication will be inscribed above street square. Street painters registered in advance are free or $20 day of event.  Call the East End Arts Council Community School of the Arts at (631) 369-2171 or visit www.eastendarts.org for information or to register.
