Open Studio’s Highlight the North Fork’s Beauty and Creativity
Cutchogue, N.Y. – The North Fork’s natural scenic beauty is enhanced this summer when the work of North Fork artists and craftspeople can be seen firsthand during our 60th Anniversary celebration of The Old Town Arts and Crafts Guild’s “North Fork Art Studio’s Tour” on Saturday, June 21, 2008 9am-5pm.
Tickets are available at the guild, by mail, or at the East End Arts Council Riverhead and are $10 in advance or $15 day of tour.
The Studio Tour is a North Fork celebration of the visual arts and the creative process in which North Fork artists and craftspeople invite the public to visit them working in their studios. More than 17 sites will be open during this event, with more than 25 artists and artisans participating.
The North Fork of Long Island has become increasingly well known for its vast community of local artists and craftspeople. This tour will highlight those artists. What makes this tour so special is that residents and visitors can meet a variety of artists in person and see their work as it is being produced.
The tour of open studios features the work of stained glass artists, jewelers, printmakers, potters, weavers, painters, sculptors, quilt makers, wool spinners, rug hookers and photographers. Many studios will feature special exhibits in conjunction with this event.
This event represents a unique opportunity to meet a wide variety of artists and craftspeople in their studios, some of which are only open to the public during this day. The Guild created Open Studio Weekend to increase the visibility of artists and craftspeople on the North Fork and to foster an appreciation for the creative process and the role that artists and craftspeople play in the vitality of North Fork communities.
A map booklet with directions to participating sites will be available to ticket holders on the day of tour at The Old Town Arts and Crafts Guild in Cutchogue. Additional information about The North Fork Art Studio Tour can be found online at www.oldtownguild.com or by calling (631) 734-6382.
